Your are in most of the colleges

OK, so you are an URM with a high GPA, 36 ACT, and a bunch of very high SAT 2 scores and AP scores. Your EC’s look respectable but not stand out. But you already know what the answer is. You are competitive, especially for UCLA and UCB. Stanford is a reach for everyone. Write great essays. Etc etc.

How will you pay for those California schools? Even with perfect scores, you may still be on the hook for some major fees and expenses. You may still be responsible for the OOS fees of $22K that are not covered by scholarships and grants. Your scores and URM status are similar to my son’s, but we’re in-state. There are no full rides in California publics for OOS.

aunt bea makes a good point. Look at the Univ. of California webpage for OOS applicants: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/out-of-state/index.html

Also note that “very limited financial aid” that is “mostly loans” is available to help with the OOS tuition supplement of approx. $23K per year at UCLA, UCB and the other UC’s. http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/paying-for-uc/whats-available/index.html#out-of-state

So i would have to get the rest in loans?

Yes. Your stats are very good but you can’t count on Stanford. Look at other schools where your parents can run the Net Price Calculator and see what your EFC will be. You will get better aid at a private college than trying to attend a UC from OOS. Also look in the Financial Aid forum for threads on schools that offer merit aid. Have you looked into Harvey Mudd? You could apply for a free trip to visit Harvey Mudd (competitive application process) if you apply by 8/22: <a href=“Future Achievers in Science and Technology (FAST) | Harvey Mudd College”>https://www.hmc.edu/admission/fast/

Any more thoughts?

Your stats and ECs are fantastic! I think you can definitely get into all of those schools. Even though Stanford is hard to tell, I think you still have a great shot. UCLA and UCB are almost for sure.
Best of luck!
