I’m a California resident. Chance me for Brown PLME, Columbia, Dartmouth, Duke, GWU BA/MD, UPenn, USC, Georgetown, Harvard, and UC schools: UCLA, UC Berkeley (requested for LOR), UC San Diego
(applied Bio and sent research abstracts to most schools)

Team Captain of Varsity Soccer (1 year), playing in high school 3 years (skipped junior year)
Won league title for soccer (I’m good at soccer, but not great enough to get recruited to the schools I’m interested in, except maybe UCSD, but not interested in playing soccer in college at a competitive level)
Varsity MVP soccer
Volunteer at local hospital (200+ hours) 3 years
President of Science Olympiad club on campus 3 years, member for 4 years
President and founder of an Innovation Club on campus for 2 years (build little innovative things, help with community, etc.)

Cancer awareness volunteer – raised money for children fighting cancer all 4 years
Piano competitions (no wins, just for fun) and art competitions (won one art contest, but also mainly for fun)

Work Experiences:
I think the highlight of my application is my intern work in cancer research and data analysis. I worked alongside researchers, physicians, and statisticians to find new ways to improve a specific radiation cancer treatment. The study will be completed in a month, but I have been working on it for the past year (big data analysis, lots of work, all that) and also I had another leadership role here, as I represented our research team in tumor board meetings and conferences across California. Additionally, I shadowed a really fantastic doctor for 6 months, and he wrote me a really great LOR, and of course, really interesting experiences.

Essays:
I talked about my work in a country in Africa, where I came up with a solution to improve public health conditions. It wasn’t cliche, I promise
My passion for arts and sciences
Research

I’m a South Asian student, but I have personality and a sense of humor (I swear) I’m definitely not boring. I really love Liberal Arts schools and my letters of recs were usually from my Biology and Art History teachers (both loved me, and I love them and the doctor I shadowed.

I also understand that it’s really hard to base predictions off of just looking at a list of stuff and numbers, but I’m interested in what you guys have to say. I will chance back to all the lovely folks who take the time to read and reply!

Brown – All Ivies are a reach for everyone yada yada yada but you have a chance. If i had to give a number id say 25%
Columbia – again reach and harder than brown
Dartmouth – not sure, probably about the same as brown. Your scores are a little subpar for ivies but your gpa and EC’s are good.
Duke – Bit easier than brown
Penn – Lower. I’ve heard that they value scores a lot
USC – Very high. I’d be surprised if you didn’t get in.
Georgetown – Not sure
Harvard – Unlikely but you never know. Maybe 10% if i had to guess
UCLA – likely like USC
UCB – Pretty likely
UCSD – Very likely but you never know
All in all you have pretty good stats and hopefully you’ll make it into an ivy. Best of luck!
Chance back if you have the time?

Because you are a California resident, I’d say you have a great shot at the UC schools, even Berkeley and UCLA. I also applied to Berkeley, and they requested LORs. My counselor told me that having letters isn’t a bad thing-- it might just mean they are on the fence and want more proof to make your case. I also think you have a great shot at USC. USC can be a little erratic with their admissions decisions (from what I’ve heard) but you seem like a good fit.

I’m really not familiar with the GWU BA/MD program, so it is hard for me to say. Same with Brown’s program. I can imagine both are very competitive. You would get into GWU, but for that program in particular I’m not sure. One of my friends last year applied to the Brown PLME program. He was very like you in terms of his course load and research experience, but unfortunately he was rejected. Schools like Brown can reject the best, so don’t take it personally if you are rejected.

In terms of Columbia, Dartmouth, Duke, UPenn, and Harvard, I’d say you have the best shot at either UPenn or Duke, and maybe even Dartmouth. It’s hard to say for Columbia and Harvard. Like I said for Brown, Ivy admissions are bizarre. You might get accepted to all or none, or some combination of a few of them. You will get into some or all of the UC schools, which give some of the Ivies a run for their money. Either way, you will find your place :). Hope this helps!

UCB/UCLA/USC - match
UCSD - low match

That Beard Club thing definately makes up for your subpar test score… lol.

But legit, your test score may be your weakness during application. Your research and South Africca work are upsides tho.

All ivys are crapshoots… yada yada… I think you’ll have a good chance at the USCs and possibly Duke.
