I live in California.

Also, do I have any opportunities for merit based scholarships?

what’s your uw gpa?

UCLA takes kids with high GPA’s, yours is pretty high, so i don’t think you will have a problem getting in, work hard on your essays for UCB my friend had an amazing essay and she got in with a low gpa and sat score. Are you thinking of retaking anything?

^Yes, I am retaking in October.

Do you go to a private school? If so ask your counselors about the scholarships available. There are tons for religious schools. Plus up your Russian background, use it in an essay to describe yourself, UC’s love diversity!! If you are Russian, you will be in the minority area, making it easier to get in.

UCLA-low reach/ high match (they have a pretty large range of GPAs, you never know)
Cal- low reach/ high match (same as above)
UCSD- match unless going for biology, then very low reach
UCDavis- match
UCI- safety
Your Gpa is great, but your scores could be seen as a bit lacking, try getting your SAT up to the 2200+ range. Same with your ECs, you are in SOME clubs, but EVERYONE is in NHS and CSF. You have math club and that doctor’s club and volunteering, that sounds a bit mediocre. I would advise that you join some big name clubs(mock trial, MUN, FBLA, speech and debate) or a sport. Or even start an art. Although if it’s your senior year already, don’t. It would seem that you are joining these clubs just for college.(which you sorta would be doing) Your awards are also a bit lacking. Universities are looking for National awards within competitions, not just school academic awards. Sorry that I’m loading this all on you, but I’m just trying to help. Good luck on the application process, and your essay sounds like an interesting topic. And as for merit scholarships, depends on many factors including parents’ income.

^Quick question. Why is UCSD dependent on major, because I do want to go for bio. Can’t I just apply for undecided for my major?

Yeah, but bio is the most popular. and they often can tell which major the person will most likely be. Since you are in the med and math clubs, and are strong in those subjects, they will be able to tell.

That makes sense. In your opinion, would it be a good idea to start a youth against smoking club or something?

your gpa is great. however, your sat’s are a little lacking as well as your ec’s. try to add another 100 points

UCLA-low reach/high match
Cal- see ucla
UCSD- don’t know, but i’m guessing neo knows his stuff so refer to him
UCDavis- match
UCI- safety

chance back?

To be honest, starting an anti-smoking club will not help THAT much in your senior year. Starting a club in senior year can seem desperate and will just tighten your schedule even more. I started a National Honors Society chapter at my school in my junior year. Although there were many more pros than cons, I was completely stressed. Starting a club is much more work than it seems and everyone in that club will look to you for advice. And esp. for NHS. ~125 people showed up for the first meeting. It was insane and hectic (we had to cancel the meeting and move it to our school’s theater). I just don’t want you to be swamped your senior year like I was Junior year! It’s your Senior Year! After the first semester, you want to be as stress free as possible! Just join a club that you believe that you will have an impact within. Colleges care about, not just the number of clubs and their prestige, but the personal contributions you made towards it and how YOU helped the club reach its goal. hope this helped! -cheers!:)

First off, your UC GPA isn’t a 4.47, its closer to 4.2 considering the highest possible UC GPA is a 4.3.

However, even with this being said, you have pretty good chances all around. UCLA and UCB are a crapshoot, so I’d definitely try to raise your SAT as high as possible to get a better chance.

UCLA/UCB: low-mid reach
UCSD: match
UCD: match
UCI: match

@Balling, oh idk, that is what the website told me but I probably put something in wrong. I know the higher I raise my scores, the better the chance for me to get into UCLA/UCB but what should it be around?
