Chance me for UCLA

Intended Major: Computer Science
SAT score: 2080 (R: 660, M: 710 W: 710), hoping to get it up to around 2200
UC Fully Weighted GPA = 4.33
UC Unweighted GPA = 3.72

I've taken 24 honors (IB) semesters.

Are you a California resident? If so, you have a very good chance of being accepted. The UC’s are probably the most, except for the UT’s, discriminatory based on state association. Great out of state students can still be accepted, but it’s much more difficult. With a 2200 sat, UCLA should become a high match or perhaps a safety. You’re SAT scores now are competitive, but raising them even slightly will give you a big advantage. With your current stats (and assuming decent EC’s) I’d estimate your instate chances at 90% and your out of state chances at 75%.

high reach - reach - low reach - high match - match - low match - safety

Computer science is extremely difficult to be accepted into. Also, your GPA is unimpressive and probably below average for UCLA. UCLA and the majority of the UCs prefer high GPA over high test scores. As a result, UCLA is a reach for you. I will assume that your ECs are decent because you probably did CAS for IB.

Similar to you, I took IB classes (including HL math). My GPA is slightly lower than yours (3.66 unweighted and 4.29 fully weighted). My SAT score is 2300 (but this does not matter much because most UCs prefer high GPA over high test scores). My intended major for most UCs was also computer science. Among the UCs that I applied to, UCB, UCLA, and UCSD rejected me. UCD (civil engineering) and UCI waitlisted me.

the average unweighted gpa is 3.68 and weighted is 4.29 in ucla according to collegedata. also top 94% of qualified studwnta have 3.75 gpa at least
His unweighted gpa is on bottom 4% but his weighted gpa is higher than average, so i don think gpa is a problem.

Bump.
