I previously made a thread on here where I stated my intended major was nursing but, after mulling/talking it over, I’ve decided to switch it to Economics or Accounting where schools offer that major.
My UC/CSU GPA is 3.79. (Upward trend in grades)
My UW GPA (Freshman-Junior) 3.48 with a W GPA of 4.25.
I’ve taken 4 AP courses from sophomore to junior year with a majority of the rest being honors.
SAT: 1310 (M: 660 CR: 650)
UC’s that I’m looking at are UCI, UCSB, UCSD, and UCSC.
CSU’s I’m interested in are CSU Fullerton, Cal Poly SLO, CSULB, and SDSU.
Also Loyola Marymount and University of Washington if anyone could give me input on that; I’d greatly appreciate it!
ECs:
Volunteered at the UCSD hospital
Red Cross Volunteer
I’ve done a couple leadership camps as both a camper and leader
Varsity Tennis for 3 years with a few awards from that
Key Club with a few volunteer events/hours, nothing special
Softball (recreational) for 4 years
Though an upward trend in GPA is good, a high GPA is better. A 3.79 UC GPA isn’t too good, and if there’s one major thing that will bring you down in terms of chances, it is exactly this. To give it to you straight, UCs are very GPA focused and a high GPA is what they first look for in an applicant.
A 1310 is around an 1840 on the old scale/2400 scoring, and it’s a decent score, but for UCSD and UCSB it is quite weak. Are you planning to take any more SATs? I highly recommend you to because a better score would raise your chances. 1370+ would be ideal. (It will not exactly compensate for a low GPA, but having a higher score is always good in any case.) If you are not, here is what I would say:
LMU - match (a 4.25 is good and your SAT score is only a hundred points away from its 75% rank score of 1940)
UCSC - high match
UCI - low reach (though your SAT score is nearly its 75% rank score of a 1900, your UC GPA is below average and sadly, UCI is very GPA oriented)
UCSB - high reach
UCSD - high reach (your SAT score is only a couple points above its 25% rank score which is a 1770, and UCSD in general is quite competitive)
