You are on the right track but until you finish your Junior year of HS and have definite ACT results/GPA and EC’s, it is really impossible to chance you. Keep up the good work.

As an Asian male, your test scores will have to be above 32, to be a serious candidate unless, you have some other notable hook. Thus, an improvement of 5 points is where you minimally need to be at in order for a legitimate shot.

Having a half Chinese son, that is currently ready to begin his Sophomore year at an Ivy (Cornell) as an Honors and match for you and more w/ his extracurriculars, student, and having been accepted to every UC school as well as Harvey Mudd College, based on your GPA alone let alone your week ACT ( which colleges will see ) I’d say NO IVYs and yes to all UCs except UCLA & Berkeley . You do have one thing that can propel you to any IVY, MIT, Northwestern etc. with… YOUR ROWING…But you’ll need more that being a Captain, you’ll need good hard verifiable ERG numbers. We found top rowers get about a .5 GPA boost and a comparable forgiveness on SAT or ACT. My son 4.0 unweighted and 4.58 weighted. Student International Ambassador, 4 year varsity wrestling and swimming ( two school records & Captain ), Three Black Belts and two time National Youth Pankration (MMA) champion.Eagle Scout, four year Captain of the Math Team, four year member and two year president of Engineering team , Symphony Orchestra four years first violin, as a senior was selected on of 18 from a huge school district for BioMedical research ( Cancer) at USC. He tried out for Rowing at Cornell and made the Varsity squad as a freshman despite never rowing but he is the total consummate athlete. Yes, East Asians MUST out perform all groups to get into comparable institutions, if you don’t like it, too bad, vote out politicians that allow favorite races or groups, life is tough . These are the people you are competing against. My wife was the ULTIMATE TIGER MOM, I hope your mother reads this and steps up her game on you if its not too late.

Come back after Junior year. A lot of things can happen from now till that.
