I really want to go to UCSB for EE and I’m really nervous about my chances. My gpa and test scores are low, but my grades and scores in STEM areas are higher.
W GPA (9-12): 4.12
UW GPA (9-12): 3.73
UC GPA: 4.00
ACT: 31 (28E, 35M, 28R, 33S)
Major: Electrical Engineering
APs: Calc AB, Calc BC, Physics 1, Physics 2, Physics C, AP Lang, AP Lit, AP Comp Sci A, Calculus III/Linear Algebra (college course)
ECs: I’ve been a SEAP Intern for 2 years doing research, Varsity Soccer 3 years, Volunteered at a Boys and Girls club for about 50 hours.
Ethnicity/Sex: White male
I’m not going to post my grades, but lets just say that I got As in all STEM classes and Bs in English.
Essays: I wrote about the website I made when I was younger and how it led me to pursue STEM in high school and on.
I think you’ll make it. I applied last year to UCSB as an EE major as well (and got in) with a 4.0 UC GPA and a 2130 SAT score. My EC’s werent great… just volunteered at a hospital, had a dodgy little marketing internship, and was the treasurer of the movie club at my school. Like you, I did good in my STEM classes and alright/not so good in English and History (which brought my UW GPA down to a 3.79).
Just FYI: I think your test scores and GPA are fine for UCSB simply because you did well in STEM areas.
your test scores and gpa are by no means low. My top school is UCSB as well and I am applying with a 4.06 uc gpa, and a 32 act. so our stats are very similar. I think that these are high enough to make you competitive and put you well within the match category for UCSB.
