Alright guys so here is an updated version of what I had earlier. I had no idea about UC GPA's so now I'm including mine in here:

What do you guys think on my chances of admissions to Duke, UNC chapel hill, UGA, GA tech, emory, UC berkeley, and UCLA? Also, which ones do you think I can apply Early Action to with a good chance of getting in?
GPA: 3.59 (UW). 3.73 (W)
UC GPA...from what I think

Standardized Tests
ACT: comp-30. math 34. english 32. Reading 29. Science 25. Combined English/Wiriting 30. This was the second time I took the ACT. The first time, I did worse on math, english, and reading, but i got a 27 on science.

Rigor: 10 AP/College level courses plus a semester of AP Econ, so 10.5 or does it round up to 11?

EC's:1st Place in Atlanta TYE business competition, 4th at the national competition. Internship at BluePointe Capital Management (financial wealth management firm). French club for 4 years. Varsity Roller Hockey and Ice hockey for all 4 years. Young Men's Service League (YMSL, community service organization for young men in high school) 100+ hours of service. Future Business Leaders of America. Secretary (3rd in line, behind President and VP) of the entire Student Council at my school. People Against Sex Trafficking (PAST) club. I am also trying to get into National Honors Society for my last year, since I'm going into the 12th grade. Thanks again everyone!

Thanks for your input man…yeah I’m planning on raising my GPA first semester of senior year and then applying regular decision to most of these colleges.

Yeah, you’ve got a low GPA and that’s never a good sign. You’ve got some nice EC’s and a fairly good ACT (what about SAT?). UCB and UCLA are both reaches, everything else a high reach. Get some safeties and matches in there.

Your gpa is the only thing that I could see being a handicap for you. That is what’s hindering me as well for Berkeley. Just remember, grades aren’t everything, what makes you unique will push you through.

Thanks guys! Commander I got a 1950 SAT and didn’t like it as much as ACT, so I’m going to just retake the ACT. Also, when you say ‘high reach’, do you mean those schools are harder for me to get into than UCB?

IMO you should try to take act again for higher science scores
I believe they rather see well rounded scores rather than one higher score compensating for
one lower score

Thanks collegeaims! And you’re right, my GPA needs improvement so I think I will end up bringing it up first semester of senior year and then applying regular decision to all of these schools. How does that sound?

UC Irvine, UC Riverside and UC Santa Barbara are closer matches for you. If you are very liberal politically then UC Santa Cruz could be a great option too. Cal Poly SLO might be a reach, but they are looking for out of state students and it has a great business and engineering program.

I like how people are chancing people and then wanting a chance on the same schools.
From a percentage of fall admit rates and what I know about UC:

UC Berkeley/UCLA :reaching for the skies, but doable.
UC San Diego/UC Irvine/UC Davis/ UC Santa Barbara: less reach still hard would say maybe 1-2 from here.
UC santa Cruz/ UC Riverside/ UC Merced: better shot, i’d say two out of the three would be reasonable.

as everybody said gpa is whats killer. Class rank will play a role also. Make sure to apply to all of them if money isn’t an issue and even a couple privates.

Make sure you start the app early and beast through it. And do some research about the schools. Being out of state will hurt, but talk about wanting to live in the “bestcoast”, how you want to go to the best public institutions in the world, you love the lakers (i kid) etc. You could be the best academic person in the school, but if you don’t make a connection with the school then your never going to get the shoe that fits.

credibility: not much but i did get into 3 uc schools (transfer though), and family member works in admissions for a uc school.

I don’t know about most of your college choices, but I know that your GPA is low. You have some very good EC’s, but it couldn’t hurt if you had more awards. Your ACT seems good enough for the schools your applying to. Overall, just work on your GPA and I think you will stand a good chance.
