Chance me for UC's... please.

Hello guys, as you can see, I am new here but for more than a year, i have read the many threads created here on college confidential... With that out of the way. I would first like to say that this might be a long post sooo ya. It will include an academic, extracurricular, and personal portion. Thanks for reading! ;)

Major: Computer Science and Engineering for all universities. (If not that then undeclared)

Academic

UC GPA: BARELY :-S under 4.0 (~3.96 ish)
UN weighted (10-11th): 3.8 (I AM NOT SURE IF I DID THIS RIGHT but somewhere around 3.7)

SUBJECT TEST:
Math 2: 700

AP TESTS:
Ap world history: 2
AP US history: 3
Ap Physics B: 4

Note: AP world history: I am not going to make some lame excuse about how it was the teacher's fault or that i had personal issues because well... i didn't. I just was not ready for that amount of workload. By Junior year I realized if I did not shape up, I would regret it for the rest of my life, and honestly, I think I did change. Me and my counselor have been trying to change that "D" to a higher grade at a community college. I am currently taking the course and I am doing pretty well (B).

Hooks: URM, low income (30k-40k), first generation college student

Personal Essay: ( I just started writing it last week) I started writing about my passions for computer science and web design and what I did during the summer of 10th grade to take it to the next level. Also talked a little bit about my family issues and not only how the hardships I have faced but, the competition from my fellow peers have influenced me to strive toward my goal and challenge myself.

Wow... I felt like I wrote "War and Peace" over here. Anywho.... I would like honest opinions for all UC's please because trying to say i am a "safety" for UCLA is downright sad and will hurt my hopes in the long run.

I would like to thank you again for taking your time to read this.

I also forgot. Sorry guys.
Rank: Top 10%
also I took TOK (Theory of Knowledge) in 11th grade (N/A, A)

UCLA/UCB/UCSD: Low Reach/Reach
UCD/UCI/UCSB: High Match/Low Reach
UCR/UCM/UCSC: Match
UC GPA not bad, but ACT of 28 not competitive for the top tier UC’s. URM will not matter since UC’s cannot use affirmative action for admissions. Need to increase that ACT to 30+. Summer internship will help and write great essays.

For most UCs, Computer Science and Engineering is heavily impacted and I’ve actually talked to a college admissions for UCLA (asking about the which chances are better Impacted Major or Undeclared) and he informed me that there’d be a better chance for UNDECLARED. If your primary goal is to get into a top UC school no matter what, undeclared would be the way to go. This is what I’ve heard.

Also I agree with Gumbymom, ACT would look much better if it pulled up to a 30/31/+ have you tried SATs? Some people who tried ACT and got high 20s ended up getting a better score on the SAT. But you have great potential to write awesome essays. :)

UCI/UCSB look like a Match IMO. Good luck!

@Christina22 Thanks for the input, yea i am also currently studying for the act… i took the sat and literally bombed it… 1490… so ya.

Okay, then ACTs should definitely be your focus! Haha. Seeing your stats, you could definitely raise your score up to 30 and above. If you do this, you’ll be Low Reach/Reach for UCSD which has an awesome Computer Science major for Undergrad. My cousin got a job right out of UCSD with a CS major and she loved life there. Also UCB is known for random acceptances all over so you have a 50/50 chance.

@christina22 and so i have heard! Yes I am hoping for a 30 act atleast. UCSD is my main goal.
