I understand that my GPA will be a limiting factor towards my admission for UCLA, UCB, and UCSD.. assuming my personal statements are solid what are my chances for these schools?

Which major in L&S??

UCD/UCSB/UCI: Match
UCB/UCLA: High Match/Low Reach
Good EC’s and test scores. Good Luck.

Your UCGPA is way below average for all the UCs that you listed. Unfortunately for you, the UCs really care about GPA.

UCB: reach
UCLA: reach
UCSD: low reach
UCD: high match
UCI: high match
UCSB: match

Your SAT scores are above average, but the UCs do not seem to care about SAT scores. UCSB seems to care about SAT scores a little more than the other UCs do, so you may be able to get in there.

Anyone else? I will chance back!

I’d say:

UCB: Reach.
UCLA: Reach.
UCSD: High Match/Low Reach.
UCI: High-ish Match.
UCD: High-ish Match.
UCSB: High-ish Match.

GPA is a big thing at UCs, and yours just isn’t quite as high as it could be, which makes things a bit more difficult.

do you believe that having higher test scores than average reported for most of these schools would offset that GPA by a bit?

I went in hoping that would happen when I applied to UCLA. Ended up getting denied. My SAT was 2240 and my UC GPA was 4.04.

That being said, probably could offset it for UCSB, UCI, and UCD. That’s why I put the “ish” in.

A bit, not a lot. UCs tend to weight GPA much more than test scores.

@ucbalumnus

Can you chance me for these schools? UCSD is basically my #1 at this point but I’m not sure if my GPA will deter me from being admitted.

They are all high matches, with the exception of UCB and UCLA, those are reaches. Yes your GPA is a limiting factor but do not stress about it. If you show uniqueness in your personal statements and essays, that could greatly benefit your application.

I may get another B this semester, lowering my UW to 3.5… would this severely hurt my already low chances at these schools?

Parchment’s data suggests that UCSB is the only UC on your list that cares a lot about SAT/ACT scores. As a result, UCSB was and still is the only UC on your list that you can get into.

One applicant’s experience can differ greatly, but my son applied to Berkeley, Davis, and UCSD with an unweighted GPA of 3.3-3.4, a UC-weighted GPA hovering near 4.0 (their system wasn’t designed for private schools on the East Coast), and SAT/ACT scores of 2060/31. UCSD and Davis accepted him; Berkeley rejected him.

@woogzmama thanks for the input. I would be very happy to attend UCSD so this offers some hope for me.
