Hi guys! I’m currently a prospective student at UCB, UCLA, UCSD, USC, Cornell, Carnegie, and UMich. I was wondering if you guys could chance me for these schools.
PLANNED MAJOR: Business
State: California
GPA: 3.76 UW; 4.4 W
Rank: Top 10%
ACT: 33 (35 on English, 35 on math, 31 on reading, 32 on science)
Subject Test: Math II - 780
AP & IB courses from 10-11th grade: 2 AP courses, 7 IB courses (6 HL classes)
EC’s
Leader for my worship team from 9th-12th grade. (~150 hrs per year for 3.5 years)
Model UN this year - won “Outstanding Delegate” in a tournament
Speech this year - didn’t win anything YET.
Essays:
HOOKS (?): Talked about my schizophrenic sister and how I grew from that experience
Also discussed about my mother’s health condition. It got to the point where she had to undergo surgery in another country. I talked about my experience living without her for some time being.
Recommendations:
Overall, I think they’re all pretty good.
THANK YOU GUYS FOR CHECKING IN ON THIS THREAD.
3.76 UW but 4.4 W after junior year? That seems highly unlikely (impossible) unless you only took like 2 classes freshman year. Also you can’t take HL IB classes junior year unless it’s the first year of a sequence. Your ACT is good enough but your (one) SAT II is a little low. EC - worship team?
Hooks - must adversely affect you, otherwise I wouldn’t fixate on them in essays or anything - should be about you
Assuming you live in California:
UCB: maybe
UCLA: maybe
UCSD: accept
USC: low reach
Cornell: reach
Carnegie: low reach
UMich: maybe
i agree with @b4sicallyid0work’s assessment. also, you will have to calculate your capped and uncapped UC GPAs which is what the UCs use.
UC GPA calculator: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Post UW UC GPA, Weighted Capped UC GPA and Fully Weighted UC GPA.
What are your safety schools?
You do realize only UCB has a Business school which you cannot apply to directly as a Freshman? What are your planned majors at UCSD and UCLA?
@b4sicallyid0work @wormholes @Gumbymom - my UC gpa’s 4.08. Uncapped is a 4.4. I started the IB program in my junior year, so I was able to take HL classes.
I want to persue economics in UCSD and LA.
good chance at UCSD. decent chance at UCLA but it will be more of a reach.
UC adopts holistic review and admits students base upon historic results of the graduating senior class. In another word, the better of your high school, the harder it is.
UCSD is definitely possible. UCLA/UCB are always tough admits and you are a competitive applicant. Just hope for the best and Good Luck.
HOOKS are what a school needs, (not what you define as a hook):
Recruited athlete, URM, Legacy, large donor.
