Hello!
I am a rising senior. I will make this chance thread short and concise so people don't overlook it.

UC GPA:4.1
UW:3.78
Class Rank: Top 11ish%
ACT: 31 (Confident on landing a 35-36, have two more attemps)
SAT: 1900, please don't pay attention to this, I stopped after one attempt and started focussing on ACT.
SAT Math II Subject Test: 780
SAT U.S History: 790
SAT Bio M: 770
AP: Calc AB:5 APUSH:5 WHAP:3
Taking Statistics at CC over summer.

Senior Courseload: (AP's Only)
AP Calc BC
AP Physics B
AP Government

School information: Extremely overpopulated asian predominantly public school in Silicon Valley. My school is unique in that it DOES NOT offer ANY honors courses what so ever, and AP's are EXTREMELY restricted and hard to obtain due to overpopulation.

ECs:
EC's:
-Golf Freshman year (stopped)
-Red Cross (Certified in Disaster training)
-CSF Lifetime Member
-Basketball Coaching (3.5 years)
-Work Experience at a major golf organization (The First Tee): Program Manager, in charge of at least 100 kids, submitted a business proposal to enhance the program (budget problems in this particular First Tee locations) involvement in new First Tee app for smart phones.
-Two week program at Cisco TV Studios for Video Production (Engineering based)

I am planning on applying to UCB in Letters and Science, same with UCLA and USC, but plan on applying to lower tier UC's for computer science/artificial intelligence.

UCB and USC are my #1 choices, so if I could have a chance primarily on these.

If you can get your ACT up to 33-34, I think at USC you’ll have a very good chance and a fairly good one at UCB. Your golf small business experience came across as very impressive to me, so that might be something to focus on in applications! Good luck :)

I would say USC is a match for you.
And I don’t see why you wouldn’t get into UCB; I think if you get your ACT to your projected score, you’re in!

I think your GPA might end up hurting you bit, but if you can get your ACT up to where it needs to be, I think you have a good chance at most of the UCs and USC, UCB might be a bit of a reach though. Good luck!

For USC your GPA is at the mid-point for admitted students for 2011. Your current ACT is slightly below the mid-point. While I think you can expect some improvement in your ACT score, a 35 or (perfect) 36, would seem unlikely.

Normally I would say you’re a match for SC, but last year’s change to the CommonApp increased the number of applications dramatically. This year’s admit rate is approximately 18.5%; to my way of thinking that makes SC a reach. Not because you’re not qualified, but when a school is rejecting more than 80% of its candidates I think it’s a mistake to consider it a Match situation. I’m not as familiar with the UCB statistics though I suspect it’s a similar story as SC.

I think you have a fairly good shot being in state and all. Don’t worry, the admissions committee will know about the competitiveness of your school and not hold that against you if you couldn’t get into certain AP course. Your ECs are unique but don’t show too much dedication or leadership.

Anyway, I think you could get into USC, but UCB is still a slight reach for you. Good luck!

Oh I’m sorry I didn’t read about your golf part! I take back the lack of dedication or leadership comment. Definitely write about that EC in your essays :)

wow, your stats look similar to mine, kind of. i have a 3.8 UC gpa and not that many extracirriculars, only like two, but am an incoming junior so i still have time to catch up. I would say that if you get your act up a bit mre, liike at least two, then its a good shot. chance me back=), my thread is like two above yours( chance me, incoming junior, if my test scores…)
