I'm a Junior planning in applying to a few universities next school year.

I plan to apply to: UCSD, UCD, UCI, UCSB, and BYU Provo (I'm mormon).

UC GPA: 3.86
SAT1: 1970 (670 CR, 620 M, 680 W) (first time, I plan to increase to at least 2050)
SAT subject tests: taking Biology M and plan to get a 750. Not sure if im gonna take Math 2 because I'm terrible at math.

AP classes: Biology, English Comp., Pyschology (took this past May so dont know scores yet)

Senior Year courseload:
-AP Calculus
-AP Literature
-AP Gov./Honors Economics
-Photography
-Possibly AP Chem

E.C.s (weak, I know):
-Key Club
-CSF (California Scholarship Federation)
FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes)
-Attended early morning seminary for an hour every day before school (for 4 years)
-200+ service hours

I also have a huge upward trend since Freshman year, went from 1.9 GPA freshman year to 4.0 GPA junior year. I plan to somehow tell them about the challenges I faced in school. These challenges include terrible eyesight that disabled me from seeing the board until diagnosed in sophomore year, significant (>50%) bilateral hearing loss so I couldnt hear any of my teachers, and ADD predominantly inattentive type so I had a hard time focusing. I also had family struggles around my during my 8-10th grade years because my older brother had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, which was a pretty big thing to deal with as a family.

So... What are my chances and what can I do to increase them? (I already know my GPA is low but its just too late to improve it).

Thank you all so much!

Oh, and I hope to major in Biology. But I know I cant get in that way, so I’ll probably just say my major is undeclared.

UCSD: reach
UCD: low reach
UCI: high match
UCSB: high match
Definitely go undeclared or some weird major and transfer, because your stats are a little low for those UCs if you go for an impacted major.
Also, try to fit in some ECs or volunteering over summer if you can

Thanks! Qnyone else please?

@neuromajor REALLY? Does that mean I have the same chance of getting in as a Bio major as undecided?

Thanks btw and i’ll chance back when i get home from school :)

UCSD - high match/low reach
UCD - match
UCI - high match
UCSB - match
BYU Provo - don’t know much sorry!

I think it’d really help if you could up your SAT score just a bit. Getting over that 2000 mark looks rather good for applicants. Also see if you can invest in some life science ECs like volunteering for biological preservation site clean-up, etc etc. Best of luck!!

Chance back? [Penn, Harvard, Chicago and More!!](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1509778-chance-new-guy-penn-harvard-chicago-more-will-chance-back.html)

Okay I’ve chanced both of you on your threads :)

Any one else? :)

UCSD - low reach
UCD - high match
UCI - match
UCSB - match
BYU Provo - im not sure

I think that you would have better chances if you could raise you SAT scores or maybe try the ACT.

Chance back Please!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1505845-chance-me-all-u-cs.html

I have learned that it is impossible to really “chance” someone. Before I received my decisions this spring, I did a “chance me” thread for Northwestern, Notre Dame, USC, UCLA, Cal Berkeley, and Boston College and everybody said that those were “reach” schools.

@JustinBryce did you get into those schools?…

Thanks xazndudex chancing you right now :)

To me the only problem is the SAT. If you could get it to like 2050 that would probably be sufficient for most of those schools. Also get some more ECs I guess. I’m not big on those you’ve already seen mine hahah

Okay thank you to everyone who has helped :)

This thread has pretty much tun its course, but I was just wondering if I could get one more SOLID chance? Im basing a lot of my optimism and hope off of this thread so I would really appreciate it :)

The only one that I am unsure about is UCSD and BYU. The rest you should be good to go.

(Also, if you plan on majoring in biology to UCD its going to be tougher to get in due to the major being impacted in addition to the prestigious nature of the their program.)
