Chance me for UC's

Hi. I am going to be a senior at a high school with a pretty good reputation (in Silicon Valley).
I want to major in the fields of either economics or computer science, though most likely it will be economics. I really wantED to attend UC Berkeley or UCLA (before Junior year), now I hope to get into UCSD or UC Davis, and even UCSB or UCI. I know my chances are kind of slim for UC Berkeley or UCLA, but I want to know if I have a chance at all. Also, my school isnt all big with AP's and honor's, so those are limited in my schedule, even though I tried to take as many as I possibly could. I tried to even it out with honors courses though.

10th Grade GPA
Chem Honors A/A
World History B/A
Algebra 2/Trig A/A

if i get an A in the Stats class, this is how my gpa would look

What are my chances for most UC's, though preferably UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UCLA, and UC San Diego.
Thanks a lot!!

Can anyone help? I’m sooooo scared because I had such a good chance after sophomore year, but junior year just beat me so bad…

You’ve got a chance with most of the UC’s. If you can increase your SAT score to about 2100-2200 you’ll have a better chance at Berkeley and UCLA.

Thanks! That makes me feel a lot better, I have been feeling so depressed after junior year due to my gpa…:/

When it comes to the UC’s, you’re in the range for SD perfectly and mid to mid low for Berk and LA in my opinion. To really solidify your shot, you are gonna have to write a well written essay that sells you in the best way possible as humble, industrious, passionate, and compassionate with an overall yearn for intellect and knowledge. A good essay tip is to think about what does a typical essay look like? Then you dont write about that. A superior essay sets aside the acceptees from the rejectees in any gpa/sat range in the UC system.

Alright, I will definitely put 110% in the essay and make sure to get a lot of advice!

bumppppppppppp

I think you have a great chance at most UCs! I wouldn’t not count on UCB or UCLA, I still think you’ve got a pretty good chance.

Chance me pleaaaase?

Okay thanks! Anyone else have any opinions? Is there anything I need to work on improving?

bumppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

prolly good chance in all of them!

Thanks! Anyone else?

Actually, I dont agree with the other comments. I think Berkeley and UCLA are high reaches and UCSD and UCD are medium reaches. UCSB and UCI are matches, and the rest are safeties. Medium SAT Score+Medium GPA+Random EC’s=not a strong applicant

Oh okay thanks! I was actually getting pretty confident but I guess i gotta go back on earth haha yea i know my gpa and sat arent that good, really am trying to improve that sat though (Hopefully act works out)

bumppppppppppp

Just a question, do you happen to be nationally ranked for tennis? Are you good enough to play for UCLA or Berkeley? They’re Div 1, but if you can get in for tennis, that would be great.

Nope. I actually just started playing competitive 9th grade, before that, it was all soccer for me. But I am still good enough to have been playing varsity all four years for most schools near me (my school happens to be full of asians so you can imagine how hard it is to be a 4 year varsity player haha). I might be D3 or maybe even D2, im not sure about D1.

i’m gonna bump this again…here it goes…bumppppppppppppppp

For econ, business or CS, why not try for Cal Poly SLO? Could be the perfect fit and way better if you want a hands on education, internships and job offers in CA. My kid applied to and got into 5 UC’s including all those that you mention except Berkeley (he had no interest in that particular school). Turned then all down for Cal Poly as did many of his classmates…

You should check it out at the very least. Go to Cal Poly SLO and save 30-40% on tuition and room & board and still get a job that pays more than at a UC.

I agree with 55Smash. I think you’re in a good place for UCSD, and I think your matches should be UCI, UCSB, and UCDavis. Your course load doesn’t have that many AP’s, which might bring you down.

UCLA and UC Berkeley will be mid reaches for you. I think that if you raise your SAT score to at least a 2100+ or get a 32-34 on your ACT, you should be okay. Your EC’s are not as strong, but I think that if you write a great essay that really shows your character, you should feel confident sending in your application.

Good luck!

Chance me back:
