I’m currently a junior in high school and in California. I screwed up a little sophomore year (2 B’s both semesters) but I know I have the ability to get all A’s this year. Here’s my Stats so far:
Freshman Year:
PreCalc H
English 9 H
Biology
Digital Media
Journalism
PE
Spanish 1
(most possible rigorous schedule for freshmen at my school)
Sophomore Year:
Chemistry Honors (A/A)
AP Euro (B+/B+ and a 4 on the exam)
Spanish 2 (B+/B+)
English 10 H (A/A)
AP Calc AB (A/A and a 4 on the exam)
PE
Intro to Art (A/A)
As a result of my sophomore year grades, my current UW GPA is 3.67 and W GPA is 4.33.
My junior schedule is:
AP Calc BC
AP Stats
AP Bio
AP Physics 1
American Lit H
APUSH
I know for a fact that I can get all A’s in these classes, but even if I do, my UW GPA will only be 3.83 and W will be around 4.67. Do you think I still have a chance at the top UC’s (Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD)? As a senior, I will take AP Spanish, AP Physics 2, AP Econ, AP Gov, AP Lit, AP Psych and a college calculus course at a community college.
Test Scores:
I will take the SAT in December, most likely will get around 1530/1600
-SAT II Math Level 2: 790
-I will take the Physics and Chemistry Subject Tests in June.
My EC’s are:
- Speech and Debate (Publicist for 2 years, will be in club all 4 years)
- Red Cross
- ASA (Asian Student Association, Treasurer and next year I will be president)
- Founder and co-president of STEM Club
Volunteering:
- Math tutor (about 70 hours)
- Reading tutor in underprivileged elementary schools
- Museum (about 60 hours)
Job Experience:
Math tutor (1 year)
My intended major will most likely be accounting, economics, math, or computer science. I haven’t made up my mind yet. Will I have a better chance if I apply as undeclared?
I want to apply to USC, NYU, UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UCSB, US Davis, and UPENN. Do you think I have a shot at any of these? What can I do to improve?
