I would really appreciate any input you have. Thanks ya guys!

UC System cares mostly about the GPA and(!) they more in-state students than out-of state students. Thats because according to California law every California citizen has the right to be educated. You have the 2 things theyre looking for. I think you should even apply to UC Davis or UCLA. Hope that helps!

OP has a 3.8 capped UC GPA. UCSB’s average capped UC GPA is 4.03. Therefore, OP’s GPA is not even close to average. You are correct that UCs, in general, care about GPA more than about SAT scores, but UCSB seems to really like students with a very high SAT score.

Your GPA is low and your SAT score is not high enough for UCSB to overlook your low GPA, so you will probably be rejected. UCSB is a low reach or high match depending on your major.

I’m currently a senior at UCSB. I applied to UCSB four years ago with a reported GPA of 3.7 and an SAT score of
1630. At the time, the average GPA was about a 4.1 and average SAT was a bit over 1900. I didn’t pass any of my AP tests either. Don’t be discouraged if you have a lower than average GPA or SAT score; it’s an average for a reason and there are always people getting in with 3.0’s.

My unweighted GPA was a 3.05 when i applied. I understand that college is getting harder to get into, but from the GPA’s i’ve heard from current freshmen, I’d say you have a good chance depending on your major. I wish you the best of luck and feel free to message me.
