Chance me for UGA EA/Honors

I know I might get in for EA considering I got in for Georgia Tech Early Action. What are my chances for EA and a long shot...how silly am I for applying for Georgia Honors? Also...11,00 kids applied EA for UGA...
UW GPA: 3.95
---#AP's 4 (plus one commuinty college course)
---3 years varsity Track
---4 years marching (2 years tpt section leader)
---4 years FCA member (2 years track rep, sing in band, run tech and sound)
---Haven't done an excess in community service but was a 2 year member in German HS and did 2 mission trips
---Getting a good rec from a UGA alum
SAT- 580 English Comp, 730 Math, 600 Writing (1910...i know...low for Honors)
ACT- 29 (33 math, 31 english, 24 reading, 29 science)
---worked at cold stone over the summer
---4 years in ultimate frisbee club, made a community group over the summer

You’ll get in at UGA.

What’s the req’ts for UGa honors? How many are chosen? What’s the avg stats?

~500 are chosen. Average SAT is 1460. I have a 1310  Avg weighted GPA is a 4.09…I have atleast around that.

Here are the stats from the Honors website and Admissions site:

HONORS PROGRAM STATISTICS 2010–2011

Honors Program Students 2350
2010–2011 First-Year Class 525
Average First-Year High School GPA 4.06
Average First-Year SAT 1471*
Middle-Range SAT 1440 – 1490
ACT Middle 50% of Admitted Honors Students: 31 - 33

asereph: Good luck on Friday. You should have a very good shot at EA. Auto admit for Honors works a little differently. Approximately the top 2% of the EA applicants are offered an auto admit spot in Honors without having to fill out an application (sorry i can’t find the direct link to that info). It is solely based on gpa and test scores. Those letters come out in late December. It is unlikely that you will make the 2% cutoff for auto admits, but the Honors Program does send out letters in late December inviting other likely candidates to apply. And you can always apply on your own anyway.

The application can give you an opportunity to highlight other parts of your background besides just your test scores and gpa.

The 2010 freshman class has 525 students in the Honors Program. They have to admit far more than that to have an enrolled # of 525.

Best of luck to you!

Oh yeah, I’m definitely NOT expecting an auto admit (that is so bad ass to get though…wow…i would be shocked if I did). It would be comforting to receive an invitation.

Purely anecdotal results from 2010 seemed to indicate that the cut off for auto admit was over 2150 for the SAT’s. My D was below that for SAT, but within the mid 50% for ACT scores and received an invitation to apply. My best advice would be to write the best essay possible and try to portray who you are and not just what it might seem like they want to hear.

The Honors Program is a wonderful opportunity, but remember that college is what you make of it and that you can pursue a lot of the same things on your own. Just takes initiative.

Yeah  thanks for posting that response. I will get involved with many things at UGA such as Redcoats. I will try to make the best of it.
