I’m gonna say that IS over OOS is not as big of a difference as URM over White/Asian/etc, especially American Indian

I hope your right!!!

I am also a Polyglot (I speak 4 languages) dont know how much this helps

English
Gujarati
Hindi
Spanish

^Just to confirm that you mean ‘native American’ not ‘east indian American citizen’, right? If so, what tribe do you belong to and is there any blood connection to a Michigan tribe on either side of your family?
In the past, Michigan did waive tuition for certain native America students – but I can’t remember the conditions – might have been whoever was under treaty with the state at the schools inception. I might go dig that up if I can find it. At any rate, I like your chances.

Here it is, from a two year old pdf, so you may want to check current status :

The land gift that started this policy in the state flowed from these tribes (in case you have a blood connection): the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi, Shawnee, and Wendat (Huron), who inhabited most of
what is now Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. In the
fall 1871 of that year, a treaty was signed between
Michgan’s Territorial Governor, Lewis Cass, and
the Native tribes. In the treaty process, Governor
Cass persuaded the Natives to cede 3840 acres
of land, half of which was earmarked for St.
Anne’s Church, and half for “a college at Detroit”
in which the Natives would be eligible to enroll.

I think this guy isn’t an URM…

What do you guys think I am? When I said American Indian I meant the people that come from the country of India, and whoe are American therefore making me American Indian. I am not a part of ANY tribe… On my HS transcript it describes me as American Indian/ Pacific Islander so thats why I put down American Indian. Do I still classify as a URM??

^ No, you’re not a minority. There are a lot of brown people.

^^^An “American Indian” would refer to a Native American. An “Asian Indian” is what you are. The definitions are confusing, but you are not really going to be considered an URM as an Asian Indian.

What should I mark down in college applications? Should I mark down Asian? It seems stupid to mark down Asian when my high school transcript says American Indian/ Pacific Islander. I think adcoms will think to themselves what the f*** is this kid trying to pull.

you’re applying to chicago and um and you don’t know what to mark down. lolol

hahahaha… you are gonna get into A LOT of colleges that you normally wouldn’t get into know, lol.

I don’t want to do that. I will just mark down American Indian so it correlates on with my transcript. Ce la vie,

hahaha, you’re kidding right

Yeah…if they think you are misleading them, that’s going to have some consequences. What you’re doing is practically equivalent to a White guy trying to pass for Black.

I change my “chance,” you’ll get in, then immediately rejected when they start to ask you about your “Native American Connections”

No I am not trying to mislead them. I don’t know what to do. I will just put down American Indian and then justify it by telling them I put it down because that’s what’s on my transcript and I am an Indian that was born in the US so I thought I was an American Indian. I used the same ethnicity on my job application and got hired. Aldo down here in Florida we have this thing called the FCAT it is a standardized test we have to take each year it tests what we have retained in the classes we took and on the FCAT it classifies me as an American Indian/ Pacific Islander as well.

You are Asian Indian. Put that on your application. You know, this confusion might be an excellent idea for your personal essay. Use it to your advantage!

Well, if they accept you right away and you receive a full ride, then you call them up and say “oh, by the way, I made a mistake… my bad”, don’t expect them to say “oh, that’s ok, you r still accepted and we’ll still give you bank”

Alright I don’t want to be recinded. What do you advise I choose as my ethnicity? Asian? I made a mistake I re-glanced over my HS Transcript it has me down as a American Indian or Alaskan Naitive. What should I do??? Please help!!!
