Chance Me for UM

Get your high school transcript adjusted. You haven’t submitted anything yet to U-M or any college. It can’t be that hard to do.

Wow, UChicago, I am so sorry that I’ve inadvertently ripped away your hook, but I’m also glad we’re getting it sorted before you apply. You will want to correct your transcript so you don’t have the disappointing experience of having things given, then taken away. Best wishes.

People of (Asian) Indian origin who are citizens of USA (either by birth or naturalization like me) typically are referred to as “Indian Americans”, not American Indians. Much in the same vein as the phrases African Americans, Chinese Americans, etc. As others have pointed out above, the phrase American Indians usually implies native Americans.

If anything, Indian Americans are considered ORM (over-represented minority) viewed by some as a disadvantage, as opposed to URM.

Unfortunately, you don’t get to choose your ethnicity.

^Yeah, you might as well say “White” or “Asian” … we’re nothin special :(

lmao, you, my friend, no longer have a hook. You have what is called an anti-hook.

I don’t know my only hook now is First Gen College Student, dont know how much that helps. I will have a talk with my Guidance Counselor about this and see what she advises. Thanks for all the responses.

What else is considered a “hook” for college besides URM, and First Generation College Student?

Do you think I will get in without being a URM and my only hooks now are, First Generation College student and Low Income?

If you don’t get at least a 32 on the ACT you probably won’t get in EA based on this year’s acceptances (it could be even harder next year). We have no idea how RD will go this year so just wait and see and compare yourself to those accepted, but keep in mind that you need even higher test scores if you’re asian (which you are, no hook here). And you have pretty much a 0% chance at a full ride.
Just to give you some perspective, I am OOS, white, 3.8 uw, 33 ACT and got a $5,000 per year merit scholarship. Even if you aced the ACT you probably wouldn’t get much more, maybe 10-15k merit IF you got a 36 but your income definitely qualifies you for some need based money.
Just wondering though, why UChicago and Michigan? They literally could not be more different, besides academic strength. Btw stop bumping your threads, put all the info on one post and if someone wants to reply they will.

damn u got 5k for those stats… man, I wish I did one better on the ACT… stupid reading

why would being asian mean he has to get higher scores? Do you mean as opposed to being black, american indian (lol), etc.?

I hate this MLDWoody kid, jeez… UGGHHH

I was always under the impression that asian applicants had to have slightly higher scores because the average for them is slightly higher. Idk.

no I don’t think they distinguish between white, asian, black, etc… I think it is mainly just URM or not URM

I applied to Chicago and Michigan too. But I agree, they are very different. Deciding between the two was very easy.

Sorry Chicago, I choose Michigan…
