I also have a sibling who graduated from UMich in 2017 and I would love to go there. Do I have a solid shot?
Yes, solid shot. Acceptance rate for the Class of 2022 was 41% for in-staters. The Class of 2023 info is not available as of yet. The sibling who graduated may get you a bump in the “demonstrated interest” column, but that’s a “considered” category, not “important” or “very important” per the CDS.
You have a good shot but definitely apply EA! Do you hope to skate there? My daughter was a synchro skater in high school too but ended up choosing another school over Michigan this last year. But a lot of people she knows went there this year and I think their team will be good.
Thanks! I don’t plan on skating synchro in college, but if I did I would do open collegiate instead of their varsity team. If I get in to Michigan, of course haha. I think I’ll do their figure skating team though, just not synchro. @PrdMomto1
Just to throw out another Class of 2022 statistic (or two or three) at you, roughly 40,000 of the total 65,000 apps were submitted EA. And roughly 8,000 of those 40,000 EA apps were accepted. So, the overall EA acceptance rate was about 20% (no instate vs OOS available). The overall acceptance rate for the entire class of 2022 and 2023 was about 23%.
So, be forewarned, there’s a good chance you could be deferred too, most EA apps are, but let’s hope not. Good luck!
Some people are such Negative Nancies. I have helped 3 students applying, and all 3 had slightly lower stats than you from competitive high schools. They all got in!
The odds are you in your favor. Submit early, and make sure your essays are unique/interesting. Good luck!
