Chance me for Umich LSA

Hi! I am an international student and is currently a student at a California high school. I really like UMich and I’m applying for RD. Really anxious so please chance me!

From Macau, Asian
Intended Major: International studies or Political Science
GPA (Weighted): 4.3
GPA (Unweighted):3.76
I have a B+ in AP Lang in my junior year, English is not my mother tongue, scored a 3 on the test
Had a B in Algebra 2 Honors ( I really suck at math)
Took a couple of APs and Honors: Algebra 2 honors (B) , biology honors (A), AP HUGE (A), AP LANG (B), AP LIT (B),
AP CALC AB (A) , AP GOV (A) , spanish 2 honors (A)
ACT: 27 ( I know it sucks :frowning: )
SAT: taking the Dec test, in the 1350~1400 range in practice tests
I have a pretty strong essay, recommendation letters, was in student government, debate team, won best debator, swimming team, SNHS, Mu Alpha, tutor, head of the choral team

I only came to the US during sophomore year, so my freshmen grades are a bit different
Every college consular I have talked to told me if I can get my SAT to 1350 onwards I have a pretty good chance, but still, please chance me!! I am really anxious about my test score and it has bumped me so hard :frowning:

The best thing you can do for yourself is work your butt off to get a high SAT! The rest of your stats are fairly good, umich likes to have gpa’s around the 3.8 range unweighted so you’re on par there. I would say to get excellent letters of rec and kill your essays. I wouldn’t totally discredit you, you still have a shot but it’ll be a bit more difficult with your test scores. Also, as a side note I got into the University of Michigan with a 26 on my ACT as a transfer student. If you don’t get in the first time, do well at a CC and transfer! They care less about standardized tests at that point. Good luck to you and go blue!

Intended Major: International studies or Political Science

^This improves your chances. Competition for your intended major isn’t as fierce.

If your SAT is good, don’t give them your ACT. You only need to submit one.

To me, you sound like a great fit for he program you’re interested in studying. Sell yourself hard in the essays.

Being fluent in Cantonese is going to make up for the places English drags your scores down a bit.

Having two+ languages for international studies…will be noticed and work in your favor.

I am in my third year in Spanish and I am also fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin. Should I put that in my essay too? Thank you so much!!

Oh my Gosh…YES! If International Studies or Political Science is your intended major and you’re fluent in three languages (English, Cantonese, Mandarin) and have three years in a fourth (Spanish), those are wonderful qualifications to mention in your essay! Good luck, and please let us know when you get your decision.

Hi! I’m also an international student applying for UMich this year. The international students pool is much more competitive than in-state or out-of-state students pools, so you should definitely improve your ACT to at least 31 or SAT 1400 in order to be competitive in the international students pool. Your ECs are pretty good, but your grades need some improvement. Chance me back?:>

Can someone chance me please??!

Intended major: Actuarial Science
International student from China, female, currently attending school in Illinois.
ACT: 33 ( Math:34, English: 32, Reading:32, Science: 33)
GPA (Weighted): 4.7
GPA (Unweighted):4.0
AP scores: US History (5), Chemistry (4), World History (4), Calculus AB(5) BC(5)
Senior year classes: Honors Spanish 4, AP Stat, AP English, AP Governmet, Honors Physics, Theology
ECs: Math Team, NHS, Spanish Honors Society, Spanish Club, Math Honors Society, volunteer at PADS and local church, Baking Club

Common App essay: I think it’s pretty good, talked about traveling
UMich essays: I would say 8.5/10

I attended a school in Virginia for freshmen year, so here are the ECs I did for freshmen year:
Cheerleading, International Viewpoint Club (secretary), Key Club

I will! Thank you so much!!

I’m sure you will be fine. I looked at their stats and they care more about your GPA than standardize test. Your standardize test are awesome too so don’t even worry! You’ll be fine!! Good luck!!

Did leeejk get into umich? This is my dream school too and I’m a international student moved from Taiwan in my freshmen year (currently a senior now), so how do umichigan view us?

And I want to do LSA and major in psych, sociology or political science… not sure which one has the highest acceptance rate…
