I think that my essay will be strong, I’m writing about a topic that I’m passionate and that relates to love of politics/major, I’m going to have my AP Lit teacher review it along with my peers.

My recommendations are going to come from my AP Lang Teacher whom I had a good relationship and my Latin teacher whom I have had since sophomore year and who knows me really well.

Thank you!

UNC will be no problem as long as you write a strong essay. The reason why people get rejected at Duke is not being unique enough. Many people have a strong application just like you but what makes you more unique then the competition. I personally do not know you but I can tell you have motivation to succeed. Sadly Duke will see this motivation in alot of applicants. I know you can go to Duke if you dont give up. I recommend using Common App for Duke because it will be easier to pick essay questions. Make triple sure you are sincere with your essay and proof read before you turn it in. What colleges are not telling you which is completely true is that your competing with particularly your race. Colleges especially Duke want to be diverse with unique backgrounds. I know you can go to Duke if you believe and put in the work. You manage this far so dont give up now.

Thank you so much for the advice!

You’ve got good stats, good luck! I think UNC should be a match, the only thing working to your disadvantage is your residency in Wake County.
