UNC CHAPEL HILL BTW

UNC has very high standards for OOS students. Their OOS acceptance rate is close to Ivy level. Your weighted GPA is very high, but the fact that you don’t have a 4.0 unweighted GPA could count against you. Your class rank matters very much. I have never seen UNC take anyone who wasn’t close to the top of their class (top 5-10%-ish). For the SAT you want at least a 1500+ to be “safe”, and even then it’s not a guarantee. Your AP scores shouldn’t matter too much in admissions; they look more closely at your grades. Your ECs and awards look impressive on paper at a glance, but depending on who else applies they may or may not look appealing to admission officers. It’s subjective.

UNC only takes 18% of it class from OOS so it is a very difficult acceptance. It should be considered a reach school.

I’d recommend that you focus your time and energies to creating a solid college list that includes reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable (find out your parents’ budget and run the net price calculator for each school) and that you would be happy to attend.

BTW my school does not do rankings and tuition is not an issue at all

Your scores look impressive, see if you can get SAT up over 1500 also take the ACT and see how you do. Your stats line up well with my son’s and he got in this year (that was in state though, but from Wake county). I think OOS admission is a crapshoot and your best bet may to play up your humanitarian fund raising efforts as most applicants under consideration from OOS will have scores the same as or better than you have now.
