Chance me for UNC, UVA

I was deferred EA at UNC and UVA out of state. These are my top two schools. What are my chances for an acceptance in the next round?

Essays- very good, one very personal essay acting as a hook
Recs- Teacher recs were excellent, didn't read guidance counselor's
High income, did not apply for financial aid

A UNC graduate and donor wrote me a recommendation and sent it to the head of the chemistry department, but I'm not sure if that makes a huge difference.

Thanks!

UNC: High match
UVA: Match

Thanks! Does anyone want to guess at my chances for Georgetown (also deferred EA)?

Might as well post everywhere I applied- UNC and UVA plus Georgetown, Penn (Wharton), Elon, Yale, Lehigh, Delaware, Duke, and Saint Joe’s

Chance me? I’ll chance back!

I would assume you would get into Delaware, Elon, Saint Joe’s, and Lehigh. UVA and UNC also seem to be distinct possibilities (especially UNC, based on your recs). The rest are reaches.

Thank you! UNC and UVA are my dream schools, so this is very comforting.

Hi golfergirl. I also got deferred from UNC early action, out-of-state from a very competitive high school. UW GPA: 3.75, Weighted GPA: 4.08, 2250 SAT, 34 ACT. Your extracurriculars are a bit better than mine. I think you are a very competitive applicant and have a very good chance of getting in the regular decision pool. It would help if we knew your 1st semester senior grades because those can be very important in regular admissions. I would say UNC is a mid-high match for you. Good luck!

Oh yeah, I’ve also gotten advice to send in a letter to the admissions office reiterating that UNC or UVA is your dream school and telling them about any new accomplishments you may have achieved after submitting your application.

Thanks! Hopefully we both get in! My midyear grades were a bit hard to report since my school does block scheduling, meaning that some classes ended while others continued, but I had above a 91 in everything (95 in Physics, 92 in Calc, 95 in Lit, 96 in H. Spanish 4, etc). I’ve heard that UNC is extremely competitive OOS. 2 girls were accepted from my HS two years ago (one for crew) and one was already accepted this year (she’s a genius).

Georgetown: Reach
Yale: Reach
UPenn Wharton: Reach
Elon: Safety
Lehigh: Low match
Delaware: Safety
Duke: Reach
St. Joseph’s: Safety

Thanks! Delaware is one of my safeties, but I also applied to their honors college, which isn’t a safety, although I don’t know exactly how hard it is to get in to. Does anyone know anything about their honors college? I was just rejected from Penn State’s honors college, which stung and is making me nervous for the rest of my decisions.

Penn State honors have kids that are cross-admits with Georgetown as well as Ivies, and almost as hard to get into as Georgetown.

UDel honors: Match

Thanks so much. All this is really helpful. Just to clarify, what do you define as a match/high match? Also, I’d love any other opinons if anyone has them

Georgetown: Low Reach
Yale: Reach
UPenn Wharton: High Reach
Elon: Safety
Lehigh: Match
Delaware: Safety
Duke: Reach
St. Joseph’s: Safety

Chance me back :http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1469666-last-minute-chances-please.html</a></p>

Thanks! I chanced you back. My school has an historically good record with Georgetown acceptances, so I’m remaining cautiously optimistic there (I also had a glowing letter from an alumna who donates and volunteers as an interviewer) although I would say around 50% of my school applied.

I think you will definitely get into UNC.

I say this because last year, my son got in with a 3.7 unweighted gpa, a 2300 SAT, and unimpressive EC’s, out of state.

Your record is much better.

Georgetown: Reach
Yale: Reach
Penn: Rach
Elon: Safety
Lehigh: Match
Delaware: Safety
Duke: Reach
St. Joseph’s: Safety
UNC: Match
UVA: Slight Reach, its getting harder every year, I know the daughter of a professor at UVA who didn’t get in.

Your extra-curriculars seem strong, and grades seem fine for UVA and UNC especially. For the ivies and gtown I think your a competitive applicant.

Hey guys I would really appreciate your input and would be willing to comment on any of your concerns.
<a href=“Michigan vs. UF - Applying to College - College Confidential Forums”>Michigan vs. UF - Applying to College - College Confidential Forums;

Thanks! I tried to focus one of my essays on robotics, which is my main EC. I talked about how I’ve grown as a leader and what it’s like to be the female leader of an all-girls team in such a male-dominated competition. The award that I won is very selective and is the second highest given out in the league, and it comes with letters from Yale, MIT, WPI, ect. That’s the main reason that I’m applying to Yale, I recognize that it’s a HUGE reach. As long as I get in to UNC/UVA, I will be extremely happy.

I was also accepted to the University of Maryland (College Park Scholars Program, Engineering, Scholarship), but I’m not sure if that’s more comprable to Delaware than UVA or UNC

Going by academic prestige, UMD is a little closer to UNC/UVA than UD.
