I have recs from my piano instructor (10/10), my volunteer hospital coordinator (probably decent but not outstanding. I never read it), my AP Bio and Chem teachers (9/10), and my employer of 4 years, who is a Cornell alumnus (10/10).

Essays: I’m really not in a position to rate myself. I have basically worked on my essays since June, so I don’t know how they sound anymore. I did have nearly everyone in my life read them, including two English teachers and a professional essay coach, and they gave positive feedback.

Thank you!

Getting into college is not an exact science. I think you should have been admitted to Cornell-CALS. Anyway, I hear for UNC Chapel Hill, out of state students have little chance. Harvard is always iffy for anyone. But, I think you might get in all the others. Good luck!

@GammaDelta thank you! I have exceedingly low expectations regarding my application to Harvard (i.e. I wrote my essay about why they are going to regret rejecting me) and pretty low hopes for UNC. Do you know what the OOS acceptance rate is? I’ve only heard that it’s low, but not a definite number.

If you have such low expectations for yourself, why would you expect anyone to give you good chances?

Get some self confidence because no matter where you go, if you bring that sappy attitude with you to any university, you will be miserable

Maybe you misunderstood me @“aunt bea”. I do not have low expectations for myself. I know what I am capable of. However, I have low expectations for admission into the best college in the world (Harvard) because statistically, I have a 4% chance of getting in. I would not be applying to top-notch schools if I did not think I could be successful.

Looking at the common data set, it is 14% for Freshman out of state for the year 2017-18.

@GammaDelta oh okay, thank you! That’s not as low as I was expecting (:
