Hey, I’m a rising senior and I’d like to know my chances at these schools and if I’m on the right track with this college list. Pls tell me if these colleges are in my reach and if this is a good list for my stats. Not sure if my list is balanced enough and if it is too heavy on reaches. Also I’d like to follow business in the future so I will be applying to the business schools at these colleges hopefully.
Here’s my list so far:
University of Washington
UC Irvine
UVA
USC
University of Texas, Austin
Loyola Marymount University

State: CA
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Asian (I’m Filipino, but I don’t know if this makes any difference in helping or hurting me)
Income: over 200k
Thank you so much! Any feedback or advice is much appreciated !
Any advice is appreciated !!!
I think you have a good chance at all of the schools, NYU might be a reach. Your ethnicity might hurt you (I don’t know if being Filipino helps).
Do you have class rank?
Can you elaborate on the Junior Achievement awards? Are they local, regional, state, national?
Overall, apart from your Junior Achievement awards and working in a law office, your other ECs/awards seem quite standard. Your academic stats are okay. Also, definitely write about your grandmother if there is a certain essay topic that correlates with it, but I’d recommend against writing it for your personal essay unless you can write it well.
@fluffybear My school doesn’t rank and I think that the Junior Achievement awards are regional. Also, why would you recommend against writing about my grandmother for my personal essay? Not really sure what direction I should take for my personal essay… Thanks for the feedback!
It seems hard to write well. You don’t want to write a personal essay that sounds negative or sappy, but if you think you can write it well then go ahead.
Oh ok. Thanks for the advice!
if you are apply to top business programs would also check out the cox school of business at SMU one of the consistent top 25 programs and easier to get in than ut for an out of state person
What state do you live in? UT-Austin is very difficult to get into from out-of-state. UVA and NYU-Stern will also be reaches for you, although not completely out of range.
@woogzmama I live in California. I know UT-Austin is super hard to get into as an out of state applicant, especially for the business school. I’m mostly applying there out of encouragement from my parents, so I’m not really expecting too much. Other than UVA and NYU, does it look like I have a solid chance at the other schools on my list? Thanks for the feedback!
SDSU: Safety
UCI: Match
USC: High Match
Best of luck.
I think you have a shot at Cornell. Cornell has lots of Asians, and being from CA, I think they like geodiversity.
@preppedparent I think if I wanted to be considered at Cornell I’d need a much higher GPA and test scores. I don’t really think I’m in that range? Not sure though
@preppedparent I’ll check it out. Thanks for the advice!
