Chance me for Universities of California!

Weighted GPA: 4.28 (10th – 11th Grade)

(I would have a higher rank if my school went by weighted GPA. Most of the students ahead of me only took AP English Language, English Literature, Government and Economics, while I took 6 AP’s, 5 Honors and 3 Community College Classes)

Honors/AP/College Classes

All three of my letters of recommendation are amazing and talk highly of me.
Mr. Mount – Princeton Grad (Talks a lot about my passionate work for the school newspaper)
Mr. Bradford – Cal Poly SLO Grad (Talks a lot about my performance in Honor’s MWH, APUSH, POLYMUN and National Honor’s Society)
Mr. Overton – Cal Poly SLO Grad (Talks a lot about my performance on the track and in chemistry)

University of California Essays

Freshman Prompt – Discussed how my cousin was a genius who got a full ride to UC Berkeley and how I was forced to emulate and hopefully surpass his performance in school and life. I thought that this essay was great considering everyone who read it said that they could feel me “wanting to be an individual rather than my cousin”.

All Applicants Prompt – Discussed Track and Field and how with the help of Mr. Overton as my track coach I was able to attend CIF, which is for the elite athletes of California. I thought that this essay was good.

Final Comments
My father is a disabled veteran from the gulf war (mass hearing loss) so I get free tuition at any public institution. The majority of my family lives in Southern California and I love the area so UC San Diego is at this point my first choice school. I’ve always strived for the best though so being accepted to a school such as Berkeley may push me up state. Another thing is that my girlfriend of two years wants to attend UCLA, but I’m not sure what the likeliness of her being accepted is (Slightly lower stats then me on just about everything). Chances, comments, suggestions, anything is appreciated!

Thank you everyone for taking time out of your day to read this.

In regards to SkillsUSA, I won a scholarship to attend a top school for recording arts worth $16,000 after I won Nationals. Forgot to mention that.

Bump! Can anyone help me out?

Your ECs in my opinion, seem strong and interesting. I think you have a good shot at all the schools you listed. Your SAT score is probably your weakest point.

I say that as you are a Californian, you are in. I am a Californian, and I know for sure that the UC system has always been lenient with Californians applying. I suggest that you don’t worry about your rank/GPA and SAT since I believe your extracurriculars have enough sense of a focus that will make you stand out somewhat in the process. On top of this, the fact that you are in the top 9% at your school guarantees you by UC policy to be admitted to at least one UC.

I appreciate the replies. I was thinking that I would get into the lower four schools no sweat, but I know that UCSD, UCLA and Berkeley are difficult.
