Hi, I am a rising junior in a NJ hs (Will Graduate 2016), and I am currently interested in becoming a nurse. I recently visited University of Delaware, and I feel like it's a perfect fit! I know my grades are most likely good enough to get me into U Del for another major, but I know that it is nearly impossible to transfer into nursing, and I fear that i won't get into the nursing program.
Schools I am Interested in Applying to Nursing/Honors Programs are:
University of Delaware
The College of New Jersey
Villanova
Rutgers New Brunswick
University of Connecticut
Penn State University
NorthEastern University
New York University
Case Western Reserve University
Ramapo
Farleigh Dickinson

All of the Nursing programs on your list thru Case Western are top echelon Nursing Programs with very rigorous academics. As a result admission to these programs is highly competitive. IMHO if you can maintain your current grades in your Jr. and Sr. years of HS and can obtain around a 2000 score on your SATs that your channces are reasonably good for regular admission to UD in Nursing and would be in the borderline range for acceptance into the Honors Program there. Obviously being a NJ resident attending Rutgers or TCNJ would be most economical. The Rutgers School of Nursing has programs in New Brunswick, Newark, and also has a recently opened program offered in conjunction with Camden County College in Blackwood, NJ. The Rutgers-NB Program is relatively small with a freshman Nursing class of around 40 students. They do increase the class size in subsequent years but the competition for the available slots is intense. Rutgers-Camden also has a separate Nursing program that is not affiliated with the Rutgers School of Nursing in NB/Newark. It is my understanding that the Nursing Program at TCNJ is a “weed-out” type of program with only a little more than 50% of students of entering Nursing Freshman ending up graduating with a Nursing Degree (which is somewhat odd due to the very high admission standards needed to be accepted into the school). IMHO the cost of attending Villanova or NYU is ridiculous and these programs have a reputation of providing relatively low merit aid. Ramapo and Farleigh Dickinson would probably be good “safety” schools for you.

A little more info on UD. UD accepts a little below 20% of OOS students who apply for Nursing. However, over 2/3rds of the Freshman Nursing Class (85-95 OOS students) are from OOS with the largest percentage usually being from NJ. UD also provides a decent amount of merit aid to OOS students, unlike most other Flagship State Universities. We are also NJ residents and our D choose UD over the NJ schools and a number of other schools on your list and has never regretted her decision. If you would like any more info on the UD Nursing Program please feel free to PM me. Best of luck in your college quest.
