Chance me for University of Michigan

If my chances are slim, don’t be afraid to point it out.
I attend a competitive parochial high school (OOS) and plan to major in actuarial science.

GPA through junior year: 3.64 (not counting religion courses, 3.61 if they do count religion) and yes, I know this is a very low GPA for UMich

SAT: 2100 composite (800 M 630 CR 670 W)- one sitting

Senior year course load: AP Calc AB, AP Stats, AP Physics, Pyscholgy, Honors English
First quarter GPA for senior year: 4.0
Michigan will recieve my whole first semester because I’m applying RD, so my GPA could be a 3.69 cumulative if I stay on a similar trend

ECs:
National Honors Society Member
4 years of football (2 varsity)
3 years of golf (2 varsity)
2 years of both indoor and outdoor track (1 varsity season for each)
200 hours of volunteering
Nominated for leadership summit by guidance counselor, and attended it

I’m extremely confident in my writing supplements, I’ve conveyed my passion to study actuarial science at a great school like UMich very well. Recommendations should be really strong as well.

The reason I think I may have a chance is because I’ve heard actuarial science isn’t as hard of a major to get admitted into? I know it’s not in the Ross school of business

Where is your state of residence ?

Connecticut @cappex

You should calculate your Michigan GPA - all A’s =4, all B’s =3 etc… does it still come out to 3.69? GPA isn’t necessarily a problem if your HS does not inflate grades much. How rigorous was your sophomore and junior course load?
Your SAT is a bit above the 25th percentile, that is not that good, especially for an OOS student.
I’d call it a high match - low reach.

You’ve got a realistic shot, and if you can demonstrate your passions in your supplements, you might just be able to hit the mark!

As an OOS applicant, it’s best not to get hopes up too high, but I wish you the best of luck.

@TooOld4School I’ve taken the hardest math and science courses offered in my high school, the hardest history courses with the exception of this year, and honors English all years other than freshman. Also took honors Spanish 3 and 4 (regular 2). My Michigan GPA comes out to about a 3.6, but I know from speaking to an admissions counselor at Bentley University (he attended the same high school I do) that my high school is known for deflating grades rather than inflating. It’s a strong catholic high school and no one in my class has a perfect 4.0 UW
