Hi! I'm new here and wanted to know my chances of getting into UNLV! I want
to go to the Hotel college there. I have a 3.3 GPA right now. Chance me?

You’d need about 24-26 on the ACT or 1700-1800 on the SAT for best chance.

Catria, are those generally low, average, or high scores for those tests? haven’t taken them yet but will try for those.

I say that you are probably a match-high match, you will be fine if you get a good act

High Match

Thanks for all the replies guys!

bumppppppp

Hey! I’m a junior living here in Vegas (I’m new to this site too haha). I would say your match or pretty safe. Just saying, UNLV is not a hard selective school for all of us living here (it’s my last resort). All you need is a 3.0 weighted gpa and a decent SAT and your in. If I’m wrong someone correct me.

Btw, if your from Cali trying to come over, I hope you know about the WUE (Western Undergraduate Exchange)

24-26 on the ACT/1700-1800 on the SAT would make UNLV a safety, and these are only slightly above average scores on either.

DJBoom777, I am in California and yeah, I know of WUE.

Does anyone know though if Nevada kids get priority at UNLV, or are the chances the same for in and OOS students?

From what I know, (unlike Cal States and UC’s) UNLV has the same admission requirements for both in-state and out-of-state. The only difference is that Nevadans who get the advanced diploma are automatically admitted but besides that nothing else. A lot of out-of-staters make it to UNLV since about 18% of the undergrads aren’t from Nevada. (If only I had the same luck going to Cali =/) Hope that helps.

I just realized now that UNLV wants my Core GPA of only my core classes which is exactly at 3.0, the minimum. Do you think having a Core GPA of the minimum is too low now?

I think you have to work on those 3.0. What grade are you in? Since you said you didn’t take the SAT or ACT, I’ll assume you’re either a freshman or a sophomore. Don’t worry, UNLV is not very selective, and it’s also a great school, a have a cousin going there. Anyways, just try to work harder, if you had that 3.3 for core GPA then you’d be fine. Study hard, but don’t forget to do other stuff, UNLV is very diverse and there’s plenty to do there, so maybe you want to start on sports or arts or whatever it is that you’re into now, so it can help you getting in and it can help you fitting in once you’re there. Good luck to you.
Can you please chance be back?

I’m actually a junior so it’s unfortunately, going to be a challenge to bring the 3.0 up before applications this fall, but I will try. And yes, I’m planning on taking the next ACT and SAT date when it comes around, even though its a bit late.

It should be a match for you. It isn’t that hard to get in, so as long as you have a 1600-1700, you should be fine.

You’re silly! UNLV is EASY to get into! those kids are party animals…

You’ll be fine.

P.s. I used to live with UNLV students. NONE of them had above a 3.3 GPA

haha thanks for all the help! I knew UNLV wasn’t too selective, but once I figured that I was barely at the minimum 3.0 core GPA I started freaking out!

Also, does anyone know if they will only look at my core GPA or will they also consider my overall GPA in addition to my core in their decision? I’m new to this whole GPA thing.
