over qualified

There’s a very wrong trend here that I keep noticing. Why do people think he is overqualified? Look at his ACT, that is most definitely gonna hurt your chances. In fact, Umich is a Low reach for you.

A lot of people think Ann Arbor isn’t that competitive. Yes, it has a high acceptance but that’s because of the multiple U of Michs. Ann Arbor is an almost Ivy kinda school.

I think you probably have a 50-50 chance. It definitely helps that you’re instate but I would try to get some leadership and take your ACT again. Good luck!

Thank You @killforstern what can I do Junior year to make my application go into the “high match” category.

Well, maintain that 3.9 GPA that you got going to pull up the cumulative and not let the upward trend get ruined. Secondly, retake the ACT and get a 31+ at least. (SAT=2150ish)

EA there with stellar essay and I guess you should get in.

Overall 3.6/28 would be a reach; killforstern’s advice is dead on. If your father is a big donor (high 5-figures+ annually), that’ll help.

Reach

Need more than 30 ACT and more than 3.6 GPA overall cumulative unweighted GPA

@vinceh @XtrenePower Thank you for the constructive feedback, it is greatly appreciated. If I get a 31 on my ACT, paired with a stellar essay and early application would I still have a chance? The upward trend GPA is a double edged sword, colleges like the trend but do not like the cumulative. Michigan is my dream school and I would really like to kick myself in the butt for my lower GPA freshman year. Is there any other suggestions you could possibly think of to a confused junior?

Not sure what your definition of large donar is (Think 500k+), and you’ll get admitted just for your parents generosity towards the school. Without that, I would say you’re a match. Go blue!

P.S Every school does this, they may not admit to it, but they sure as hell do pay attention to their donors/ faculty member kids / etc etc hooks.

28 is not a low ACT score but for this college 28 puts you in the bottom 25th percentile…same situation with your GPA>

Yes if you get 31 you will have higher chance and it will put you in the middle.

25th percentile is 29 and 75th percentile is 33…at UMich
