Chance me for UofM, Purdue, CMU, Georgia Tech, UIUC!!

Okay, so I really want to get into a prestigious engineering school for undergrad. I totally screwed up freshman year, but there's a great trend upwards for me, please chance for the above schools!

State: MI

GPA: 3.70 (3.2 freshman year)
SAT/ACT: 2200/33
SAT II's: 800 Math, 800 Physics
AP's (All 4's or 5's): AP Chem, AP Physics Mech, AP Calc AB, AP Calc BC, AP Stats, AP Physics EnM, AP Biology, AP Gov
Hook(?): I'm a legacy, does grad school count though?

EC's:
Since Freshman year I've been the Principal Bassist of school Wind Ensemble (Featured at national conference), Orchestra (first class which will graduate having been offered orchestra), Jazz Band.

I've been involved with the musical, playing in the pit for three years, and was on crew last year as well

Model United Nations Club (may get leadership position)
Key Club
Science Club
Math Club
Founded a charity through music programs which raise money for local district music programs, and to provide opportunities for young musicians
JV Tennis for freshman, sophomore years, Varsity junior and beyond

Volunteering: 400+ Hours of Volunteer work
Work: Three summers as a data analyst at a respected pharmaceutical firm.

Awards: Waiting on results from Siemens, top 1000 MMPC (in state), National merit semi-finalist,

Please please please chance! Thank you guys so much :)

bump bump bump

Unfortunately, grad school doesn’t grant you legacy status, but your stats are rather impressive. +1 on your 800 in Physics! I’d say you should definitely keep a very positive attitude when it comes to the schools you’re applying to. Really good chance at Georgia Tech, good chances at Purdue, CMU, UofM and UIUC! Based on the stats of friends and friends of friends, I think you shouldn’t be worrying very much.

Yeah, I feel like I’m competitive with most parts of my application, the only thing I’m worried about is the GPA :/

Good News: Many schools don’t use freshman G.P.A and/or don’t use it as much as junior year grades. Also, it seems that you have a good upwards trend, which is much more attractive position than a sophmore slump or a junior collapse. Nice job on the charity; my charity work really helped supplement me to Stanford. Amazing SAT II scores, really helps you out.

Looks like an accpetance at: 1.Michigan (helps that you’re in-state)
2.UIUC (Awesome Safety School)
3. Purdue

Reach: (The accpetance rates are so low that no one can call it a match)

1.Carnagie Mellon (Porbable waitlist due to the fact that you were only “motivated” after freshman year)
2. Georgia Tech (However, you appear to be a very strong candate for this school especially)

Nice job overall.

Strong Points: Band, Charity, Tennis, AP’s, SAT II’s, volunteering
Average: Lack of Leaderships, SAT I scores (For your schools), upward trends
Negative:GPA/Class Rank, To much E.C’s

Really impressed, I sugest applying to one more reach like Stanford or MIT or CalTech as you actually countered your negatives and were open and not secretive. Try looking at Johns Hopkins or Harvey Mudd. Actually, Harvey Mudd=Best fit for you. Harvey is a great engineering school, in fact they had had kids with me at JPL (Jet Propulsion Labs, nerd’s paradise)

Thanks so much! I know, my dad has been really pushing for me to apply to Harvey Mudd just never really figured I had much of a chance. I think I will apply to a couple of reaches though. I really feel a lot better about my other options too now, thanks everyone for the replies!

Harvey Mudd is also a bit laid back, they have many parties and are part of the 5-College Union (Something like that…) which allows you to go take classes at Pomona (Awesome campus) and Scrips (An all-girls school, apparently girls are desperate there…) and some other amazing schools. Also, Berkely or UCLA might also be a nice fit… Good luck!
