Chance me for UPenn CAS ED

For reference: UPenn ED rate is 24% from last year

I will be applying to the College of Arts and Sciences for Biological Basis for Behavior (though Penn doesn’t admit by major)

Senior in Bay Area (CA) at a nationally recognized public school. School doesn’t rank individually but I’m top 10% out of 600 students. I’m the only one EDing to CAS from my school (there are like 6 people to Wharton)

SAT I: 800R 800M 770W (1 sitting)

SAT II: 780 Chem, 800 Math II, 800 US History, 800 Biology M

GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.53 (4 honors, 4 APs)

I’ve gotten 5s on all 6 of my AP tests. Senior courses: 5 AP’s (Gov, Macroecon, Calc BC, Chem, Compsci) + Regular Brit Lit

Awards: AP scholar with distinction, National Merit Semifinalist, National Honor Society

Extracurriculars (as listed on common app): Independent Research past 3 years (Bay Area BioGENEius challenge Finalist), Stanford Research Intern junior year during fall semester (8h/week) + summer after (40h/week), 500 hours community service (Weekend Shift Leader at hospital) past 3 years, Green Society (school environmental club) president past 2 years, NHS projects manager past 3 years, Research Club Director of Biological Sciences past 3 years, State flute awards for 9th/10th grade, FBLA 9th/10th grade (3rd in State for Economics), tutoring all 4 years

I’ve also sent transcript for 4 classes at my local community college (4.0 there too)

Essays: Common App 8.5+/10 (I chose the failure prompt), Penn 9+/10. Both very unique and well written. I also attached a doc with 3 research abstracts in the supplementary materials section.

Recommendations: AP Bio and APUSH teachers both 9+/10 (both offered to write me one and know me extremely well), Counselor 7+/10 (she’s new but we’re pretty close), Stanford supervisor 8.5/10

Interview: 9.5/10 (rambled a bit at the beginning but guy was super interested and it lasted 2 hours)

No hooks or legacy, one parent working but upper middle class, Asian but Canadian citizen (not permanent resident yet)

What do you guys think?

also I submitted my Penn application really early (10/12) if that matters lol

bump

Probably really really high. I’m no expert on this since I just browse to see what requirements for schools are but it seems like you have an extremely high chance. Why are you even posting here?

It seems as if you’re just here to show off unless you actually doubt your chances.

wait I actually do doubt my chances bc ivy’s are somewhat crapshoots right? This is everything on my common app nothing exaggerated. Trust me, where I come from you get very humbled by what other students have accomplished

I know what you mean, but all you can actually improve is your SAT scores by 20 which is insignificant. ECs seem pretty nice. Maybe more APs idk.

@RandomScreen His school restricts the number of weighted courses underclassmen are allowed to take (and we only have 7 honors classes, 4 of which are languages.)

BTW @RandomScreen I was just legitimately curious about my chances since I’m kinda in the dark. it’s nice to be able to have some kind of ballpark

Why go to a random internet forum if you can just ask your counselor or does your school not have one which I find hard to believe. If someone can manage to get near perfect scores on most tests, classes, etc., I find it hard to believe that that someone can manage to be “in the dark” about chances of getting into an Ivy that’s not even the most competitive. Harvard I can sort of understand but UPenn; c’mon. If anything, I see you being super arrogant.

ok noted. is anyone else willing to give me some input?

There is a reason to why nobody is replying.

I try not to answer chance threads (I’m applying ED to Penn too so I’m just as in the dark as you are) but I think you have great chances. Your research makes your app stand out, and you have a really rigorous courseload. I think you should expect great results in December, but Penn is still a highly selective university (“not even the most competitive” dude the acceptance rate drops every year plus it’s a top-10 ivy league school!!!) so I understand your concerns. You did all you could have done, and for that you should be very proud of yourself

thanks @sillyface I really appreciate it  yeah Penn is still very difficult in my opinion.

good luck to you too! what undergrad college/major are you applying to?

@RandomScreen Look, while he may be a great student, I honestly don’t think he’s trying to humble brag. It’s an ivy league school, an impacted major, and he is from undoubtedly the largest represented demographic group possible. He has every right to be worried if he wants to be. You need to stop. You’re the arrogant one, if anything.

OP, better chances than most. You’ve done everything right, and I think you have >25% chance, esp. ED.

@stuffedicing I’m doing CAS as a biology major. I was really close to applying as biological basis of behavior, but the mechanisms of disease concentration in bio ultimately won me over!

can everyone please not be salty or disrespectful? thanks @basedchem those are my exact concerns. @sillyface just curious are you doing premed?

@stuffedicing Yep, or at least I’m interested in pursuing it at the moment. Are you?
@basedchem just wanted to add I completely agree with you, I don’t understand this mentality that Penn is a last resort and the only ivies worth worrying about are HYP. Really wish those arrogant opinions would go away, it just makes the waiting period all the more stressful…

I think you have very good chances. I think the one that is holding you back is unfortunately that you are not a U.S. resident, but I still think you’ll get in. Every area of your app is decent. I’m applied to Penn ED to CAS as well! Hope we both get in!

@sillyface I am! @jarrett211 good luck to you! I did not know not being a permanent resident would hurt hmm. does it still matter if i’ve lived in the US for the past 7 years?
