SO, chance away!!!!! thanks, y'all

You’re a highly qualified applicant!
I think your essay topic is an excellent one, but I sympathize for your loss.
Make sure you apply ea/ed to one of those schools to ensure priority; you’re bound to get accepted into at least one of them.
Good luck, tell me how it goes!

Please chance back- http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1672761-chance-me-for-stanford-university.html</a></p>

Wow you’re a strong student!
i am particularly taken (as it seems an admissions committee would be) by how you not only went to your home country, but then took a lot of initiative in terms of finding those physicians. very impressive!
if i was the betting type i would say you have a great shot at all those schools, maybe more of a shot with cornell/duke, less of one at brown(simply bc of acceptance rates). but really at this level it is a crapshoot, isn’t it?

I think you’re set with any of these colleges. You also might want to look into HYPS if you’re interested because you have a great chance at any of these schools. You have plenty of hooks and great stats as well.

Thanks! I may apply SCEA to Princeton, and if WL (likely) I’ll apply to these schools and maybe Pomona and Bowdoin.

I agree with all the above; you’re pretty much set up for any school, and any difficulty getting in will be the result of the colleges’ own selectivity, not a defect on your part.

As long as your recommendations and essay are good, I don’t see a reason why any school would reject you. I’ve heard that students should avoid writing about disease, divorce or death in their college essays but you sound like your experience was very moving for you and it seems like it will really show your unique perspective to anyone who reads it. Just remember that a lot of admissions are essentially a lottery, but I’m certain you’ll find a school that fits you.

right, you see it happened when I was very young so it really took effect on my family rather than myself, but that made even more of a difference because growing up I really saw my family suffer and didn’t want the same for other families in my home country. My teacher recommendations will be quite good, but the counselor I have changed literally three times (public schools…bleh) so it will be decent at best.

Wow, that is a great application! The only advice I can offer you is this: When writing about the loss of a loved one, be sure not to turn it into a sob story. Colleges are looking for resilient individuals who can bounce back from suffering as opposed to someone who is self-pitying. From what you have written about Somalia, I don’t think you have that problem. IMHO you could get into any of those colleges fairly easily, considering the fact that they are all top-notch schools. Good luck! Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1679965-notre-dame-transfer-chances.html#latest</a></p>

Yeah, I’m glad I saw this thread. Your resume is definitely stacked, and has given me a better insight on what more I need to achieve in order to get into these reach colleges. I think you’ll be off very well, my judgement based only of my awe of it, not of any sort of professional expertise I have haha. Good luck ma’am

You’ve done everything possible on your part, nearly flawless aside from the 3 on the AP. You’re going to get into a lot of the colleges you want.

You did mine so I’ll do yours! I think you look like an incredible candidate for any school in the country that you wanted to apply to. It’s clear that you aren’t just numbers and stats, and that you have a lot of background and extra curriculars as well. If I were on the admissions board at any of those schools I wouldn’t think twice about accepting you…you look like an awesome student.

Hi - thanks for your message! Yes, my D has is in the middle of new student orientation at Penn right now. Your stats seems perfect fit for the school - I’ve never seen more diversity on ANY campus we visited. Best of luck!

I really can’t find one faulty area of your app. Obviously its not pefect 2400 and 4.0, but your pretty damn close. Being AA and having your back story is realy inspiring, and you still continue to accel. Great Job!

At this point I honestly think its all down to luck. There are so many eligible students that dont get into the school that seems to fit them perfectly. Out of those five, mayb you’ll get into 3-4 of them. Good luck!

Your grades and extracurriculars are incredible. I’m no expert, but i think you have a very strong chance of getting accepted. :)

Just based on what I see here, you are incredible and have a good chance of getting into any college you fancy. But just as some other people have noted these colleges get thousands upon thousands of worthy applicants so it can come down to luck of the draw. That being said, based on your resume, the deck may be stacked in your favor.

I suggest that you apply to HYPS, especially as you have as good a chance as any to get in. You probably would get in to one of those schools.

If you apply SCEA to Princeton, I think you’ll have better than 50/50 odds of getting in. You are truly a special applicant, and you’re a URM to top it off.

Chance me back:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1662544-chances-at-harvard-yale-princeton-mit-brown-columbia-dartmouth-tufts-duke-amherst.html#latest</a></p>

Wow your summer trip is incredible and definitely makes you unique! Also being an African American you have a better chance than most! The ivy leagues are always picky even with a 36 ACT, perfect GPA and out of this world activities but I think you have a better chance than most! You should definitely be able to get into at least one of the five you listed. Thanks for the chance!

Very strong applicant for these schools. Highly competitive schools but I think you can make it.

Great job.
