Hey guys, Im planning to apply to ED to Upenn engineering

gpa: 3.67

weighted gpa: 4.41

SAT math: 790
SAT Reading: 720
SAT Writing: 700

ACT: 34

SAT Math: 800
SAT Physics: 800
SAT Chemistry: 800
SAT History: 710

My junior yr courseload involved 5 AP's and I got A's in all of them, and only B in junior year was in French

and im going to keep the EC's short

senior position in a bioresearch club (team published 2 clones)
president of volunteer club
2 medals in mathematics (one in state level and the other at regionals)
JV track
120+ volunteer hours
Physics award for being top 10% in NJ science league
and a few other activities and clubs

Biggest hook I guess would be that I worked on a physics project at a University abroad with people applying for PhD's

So do I have a really good chance at Upenn?

where else do I have a good shot at?

Thanks everyone

sorry to say the truth

but you have no chance at Upenn engineering

im sure alot ppl willl agree with me

I think you have a good chance. I’m not sure what your exact letter grades are but I assume a majority of As? Both ACT and SAT scores are strong so you can send them.

frenchcoaster…do u even know what ur talking about?
how does he not have a good chance? he’s obviously got good sat ii scores, his sat i score could be higher but he’s got pretty decent EC’s

I AGREE WITH FRENCCOASTER!

Nah, but really, I think you have a decent shot. Judging by your junior year grades and what you said your unweighted GPA is, I assume you have major improvement. Perhaps try to take the SAT once more to further your chances a bit?

Your UW GPA will drag you down, as will your SAT I scores. SATII scores are excellent. Your ECs seem a bit sparse, though you do have two major ECs with the university and lab thing.

Overall, I think you have an OKAY chance, but nothing too high.

You people on this forum are absolutely ridiculous. Belenresto, you have a shot as good as anyone else applying to Penn engineering. While your standardized test scores are nearly perfect, your GPA is a little iffy, but I’m sure your class rank/percentile will work that out. Your ECs show not only interest, but passion in the field of engineering. As long as you write excellent essays (and applying ED never hurt), you have a good shot.

yea I will be retaking the ACT soon

and yea my gpa is low, but i cant do anything about it now
all i can do now is prep for my last test and maintain grades in senior yr

and write an essay…lol
btw, my school doesnt rank but im def in top 10% but maybe not in top 5% (class of around 350)

and which one do you guys think is harder to get into? upenn seas or columbia seas

Great scores, GPA is a bit weak but you should be ok because of your course difficulty, ecs are good. You have a good chance. Chance me back?

the big question actually is what is your ethnicity? if you are an asian male then the odds will be pretty ridiculously low.

well i am an asian male

but im an international applicant

ive lived in the US for the past 11 years, but im not a ctitizen or a permanent resident
so ill be considered as an international student

would my chances really be killed that badly because of this?

Oh that will hurt your chances a bit but you still are competitive for sure. What state are you from? If you’re California do berkeley!

i live in NJ
ill be appyling to berkeley for sure, but its reallyyy far

So for someone with engineering oriented ecs

What are the rankings from easiest to hardest to get in (engineering but to be specific, it’s for bioengineering)

Upenn seas
Cornell engineering
Columbia seas
Jhu bioengineering

And for any of these schools and others

Can I apply into arts and sciences and then switch into engineering before I start my first yr

Columbia is hardest, Penn and jhu are about the same, and Cornell is easiest. Disclaimer: none of these schools are easy and scores alone will not get you in.
