I am a junior. My unweighted gpa is a 3.5 weighted 3.9. Ive taken the SAT and scored but a 2300, but Im sure I can do better. I've taken four subject tests Math I,II, Bio E, and spanish and I've scored above a 750 in all 4. Looking at pre med. No financial boundaries. Applying Ed i am in the top 15% at my highschool .it is very rigourous and we are a blue ribbon school. (according to my guidance counselor) Colleges acknowledge that my school makes it exceptionally difficult for students to succeed, and i do follow an upward trend from freshman to sophomore and the trend shoots up to junior. I'm indian if that matters. I know this will come up so ill just address it. My gpa is low because i recieved c-'s in my first 2 years of honors math, everything else is not to brag, but alot higher.

Your GPA matters in the context of your school. If other people have gotten into top schools with a 3.5, then it won’t hurt you. However, if most people being accepted to these school have GPAs significantly higher than yours, it will affect you.

Yeah most people got in with higher gpas. To be honest I thought that my ecs were good. Also if it makes a difference my uw gpa for junior year was a 3.9 and w 4.4compared to the 3.0 and 3.2 that I got freshman and sophomore years

No one is going to tell you what you want to hear. No one can. Applying to the Ivies is a crap shoot. Looks like you have pretty good stats and probably as good a chance as anyone. But they are going to reject 9 out of 10 applicants with stats just as good if not better than yours. No harm in throwing your hat in the ring and hoping for the best. No doubt you’ll get into a good college.

Thanks, but I’m just trying to figure out if I should waste my Ed/Eas on an ivy leagues or possibly equal calliber universites like Vanderbilt where I think I have a better chance of getting accepted. And on that note I’d appreciate anymore responses.

Your senior year course load is certainly the most challenging out of all the 4 years listed with lots of AP courses. If you are able to get excellent grades for the first semester, it will definitely show an upward trend in grades and that you are finishing off as a strong student. However, that is only possible if you apply RD instead of ED. So you will have to weigh the benefits of applying ED vs RD.

Oh thanks for clarifying I actually didn’t know that. I thought that ed just had the perks of a higher acceptance rate and I thought that senior counted equally.

How successful have past students from your high school with statistics similar to yours been in applications to Penn and similar very selective colleges? Naviance should be your guide. If you’re not somewhere near the middle of successful applicants then ED is probably not appropriate.
