Chance me for USC and UMich?

Looking at these two schools mainly, I attend a prestigious high school in Missouri, and have improved my GPA remarkably since freshman year. I had a 3.4 GPA going into sophomore year, but now I'm a junior with what is shaping up to be close to a 3.8 GPA (our school does not weigh classes). I took the ACT and I received a 31. In addition to this, I am the school sports photographer (I'm thinking about writing about this in my essay) and played squash for 2 years. My father is a legacy at UMich. I have taken 2 AP's: Macroeconomics and Biology during my junior year, and am going to be taking AP Spanish, AP Environmental Science, and AP AB Calculus.

For UMich, I would say that it’s a match. If you can get your ACT higher, fantastic, if you can’t, don’t fret. Apply early, and hope for the best. For USC, I’d say that it’s a high match/low reach, I believe your chances at Mich would be higher, but since both are EA, go for it.

Is 3.8 your current cumulative GPA? What is your intended major?
For UMich, the admission average GPA was 3.85 last year and ACT 31 is around average too (if not engineering or Ross). So UMich would be a very high match to low reach for you.
Which USC are you talking about?

billcsho, I’m looking into accounting or finance and I just calculated by cumulative GPA, as of now it is standing at a 3.78. About 25% of the class of 2014 got into WashU, perhaps that brings some insight into the level of our school.

Also USC as in Southern California

The admission stat of USC is just a tad lower than UMich, however, their overall admission rate is even lower. You are still right around there admission average in GPA and ACT. It would still be a high match to low reach.
For accounting or finance major, it will be in the business school. That would make it much much more competitive. It will be a reach for you at Ross (UMich) pre-admission.
