Chance me for USNA

Hello all,

Here is my current résumé:
Sophomore
3.86 GPA
LPO- USNSCC unit
President- Support our Troops club
Assistant Captain/ officer- Varsity Hockey (High School club)
Captain- Club Hockey team
Approx. 25 volunteer hours per year
Minor in Applied Math Science and Engineering (Honors Science and Math classes)
Three honors classes this year (Math, Science, and History)

Before you jump the gun I would like to say that the amount of honors classes I am taking is appropriate for my grade in my High School. I will be taking two AP classes and three honors junior year. With that being said my current problem right now, is that I have a 3.3 gpa mainly due to my Honors Chemistry class. I will most likely be able to pull my gpa back up to a 3.86 by the end of the semester, however if I am only able to get my gpa to say a 3.5 will Naval academy admissions be able to overlook it if I do well junior year? Or will they instantly trash my application? I also live in a rather largely populated area (San Francisco). Also please comment any recommendations you may have for me.

Thank you.

Even so Navy is a reach for just about anyone…

USNA is very challenging admission. However, you are looking good so far. No, they will not instantly trash your application. The Navy will look at the actual courses you have taken, and will notice that you took AP and honors courses.

Equally important as your GPA are your scores on the ACT and SAT tests (take both in you junior year, and take each test twice in order to make sure you get your best grade). The Navy does like engineering and science majors. So, taking lots of science and math is definitely good.

Also VERY important is your other activities, especially sports. Varsity hockey is good, and being team captain is great. If you have the time and interest you might consider adding another sport. Track and Cross Country are good sports to be involved with.

Being in SF does not help nor hurt your chances.

If you want Navy to be reachable, on top of what NROTC said, aim for 31+/2100+…
