<p>GPA (w): 3.95 out of a possible 4.5
GPA (uw): ~3.51
SAT: 1980, 750 math and 590 critical reading
class rank: 28%, 232/839
swimming for 8 years
4 year varsity swimmer (regional qualifier for 3 years, most likely state qualifier this year)
3-4 clubs
150+ volunteer hours
have worked in the summers for 3 of my 4 years in high school</p>

<p>Schools:
University of Texas at Austin
Texas A&M University (rather go here than UT if accepted at both)</p>

<p>Graduating from a competitive high school. Looking to major in petroleum engineering in both these schools. Any help would be appreciated. Please be as honest as possible. Thanks in advance.</p>

<p>so, even though you don’t meet the automatic rank guideline, your SAT is in teh range and your GPA is up there, too.</p>

<p>i would guess IN at A&M.</p>

<p>i know it is harder to get in at UT, so i would guess NOT IN.</p>

<p>and, basically, i think there are UT people and A&M people. most people would not choose EITHER ONE or the OTHER. most people choose ONE or THE OTHER.</p>

UT - reach (Class rank matters for Cockrell’s Engineering)</p>

<p>For safeties, it depends on where you live.</p>

UT Austin - high reach. Almost impossible to get in if you are not in the top 10%. Are you going to CCISD ? If that is the case, then your ranking and GPA may not look as bad.</p>

<p>i am, clear lake high school in fact, quite competitive</p>

<p>Probably not in at UT, but in at A&M, A&M is easy to get into</p>

<p>yeah, I’ve heard that you have to be in the top 10 percent to get into UT’s engineering program. I know they have an excellent school though. Alot of money going into that place.</p>
