Hi,
I’m a current high school Junior with a 3.8 w/3.4 u GPA and a 31 on the ACT (I took it without preparation and am taking it again soon after doing a lot of studying, so it will probably go up). My ec’s include playing softball Freshman year (I got injured and had to quit), debate team Freshman and Sophomore year, Student Council all through high school (had to apply to it and be accepted if it matters), and a religious youth group outside of school all through high school. I have upwards of 120 community service hours, will have taken 9 or 10 AP’s with all 4’s and 5’s on the exams, and have some random fun facts like being fluent in four languages and playing a few instruments. I also have a few interesting summer activities, like attending a selective art camp at the University of Illinois and spending a summer learning about Greek history in a camp that took place in Greece. I’ll be applying as either a global relations or English major. If anyone wants to chance me for UT Austin (I’m applying from out of state), Mizzou, Ohio State, UCLA, or Indiana University I would majorly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Mizzou - match
UCLA - I would say it’s a reach. UCLA had over 100K applicants this year for the freshman class. We are CA residents and most kids we know didn’t get in last year except the ones that had 4.20 GPAs plus a 31 or better ACT. It’s going to be even more selective this year with the record breaking # of applicants. However, if you are OOS, it could be an advantage because they can charge more for OOS and maybe they’d rather take an OOS so they get more money? Just a guess.
Indiana and UT Austin are more selective than Mizzou, but not as selective as UCLA.
Not sure about Ohio State.
Best of luck!
Thank you all for the replies! I Appreciate it (:
@natcat9 they are all matches, but UCLA may be a low reach. Chance back please
I figured UCLA would be a hard one. Thanks!
If you asked about merit for UC Boulder, why aren’t you concerned that UCLA would likely expect you to pay full cost (about $53k per year)?
UT out of state? It will be a crap shoot. You are a fine candidate but applying OOS is tough.
@mom2collegekids I am concerned about that however I consider UCLA (as well as UT) to be a dream school for me where I would accept having to take out student loans or whatever I needed to do in exchange for the opportunity to attend, if that makes sense. I’m still in the process of figuring out what I can get (and what I need to get) in terms of scholarship money from schools I plan on applying to and know that my stats are above CU’s average (unlike UCLA),so I was curious about if it was possible for me to get any money from there. (:
