Chance me for UT Austin computer science OOS? Also, possibly UCLA, UCSD, and UC Berkeley?

Hey guys! Senior in South Carolina here, recently became very interested in computer science and was curious as to how the college forecast was looking for UT Austin’s Comp Sci program. I am also applying to UCLA, UCSD, and UC Berkeley.

SAT: 1970 (680M, 650E, 640R)
SAT II’s: Math 2-680 (retaking in November), Biology-630 (yikes), Chemistry-610 (even bigger yikes)
UW GPA: 3.9
W GPA: 4.63

Senior Courseload:
AP Statistics, AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP Computer Science A, AP Spanish Lang, Creative Writing Honors

Previous AP’s: AP Bio(3), AP Chemistry(3), AP US History(4), AP Lang(4)

EC’s:
Varsity Tennis (all-state), Varsity Cross Country (all-state), Varsity Track, Chess club, Math team, piano, Girls Who Code summer immersion program student, Summer research internship at UT Austin (biology stream), Part-time job at local restaurant (10th-current), volunteering here and there…

Awards:
Multiple science fair awards (two-time Intel ISEF Finalist), Society for In Vitro Biology Award, State literary meet 1st place (9th and 11th), AP Scholar with Honor, other miscellaneous school awards.

Thanks so much!

You will receive no financial aid for the California UC’s so expect to pay $55K/year to attend.

If you can afford the UC’s, then you look like a competitive applicant and have a good chance UCSD. UCLA/UCB are always tough admits but in your within range.

Good Luck.

you’re going places

Thanks for the feedback!

Direct admission to a CS major at UCs will be more competitive than admission to the campus generally is. Treat UCB EECS, UCLA CS, and UCSD CSE as reaches. Note that UCSD may admit CSE applicants as undeclared, but then getting into CSE after enrolling undeclared is very difficult (4.0 and 3.9 college GPA thresholds in recent quarters).

Any commentary on UT Austin for comp sci?

At UT Austin, class rank is used instead of GPA.

UT Austin fills about three quarters of the slots with automatic admission for Texas residents in the top 7% of their high schools. All others, including all out-of-state and international students, compete for the remaining slots. In addition, admission to the campus does not necessarily come with admission to the desired major.

So treat it as a reach.

Thank you!!
