CHANCE ME FOR UT,UCSD,BERKELEY,A&M,UM-ANN ARBOR (I will Chance Back!)

If you can raise your verbal score over 600 (which for many in your situation would be doable with practice tests, and more practice reading a variety of hard books/articles to simulate the hard passages on the test), then you would take the test October 11th - scores back in early November which is cutting it close but doable. Engineering may be filled by then, but perhaps you would get higher priority for spots as they free up than those autoadmits who waited till the deadline (two of my son’s friends did, but they did not get in the Honors program as a result). In any case, much as I like A&M, still good to have backup plans.

I don’t really know much about UT Austin, but I’ve heard ranking does matter for Austin. Maybe others who are familiar with UT Austin can help answering your question.

@2018RiceParent‌ yeah I have UTD as a back up. I already an auto admit there. So I can always transfer to UT if I get capped which is probably what’s going to happen.

@DrGoogle‌ thanks for your help! :)

Could you chance me back please?

@Dream0n‌ DONE :)

Hey there!
So I don’t know much about texas schools, so I can’t really help you there, but if you’re a resident, I think you’d have a fair shot :slight_smile:
If you don’t live in California, I would say you don’t have much of a shot as UCB unfortunately. Mainly because of your SATs and ACT. You GPA is pretty nice, and you’re obviously really into Aerospace and Science by the looks of your ECs, and thats something colleges really look for. UCB just really likes high SAT scores, so I would say you should try taking them one more time in October, and really studying hard this month. If you do that, UCB is a possibility. UCSD is always confusing, they’ll let people in with 2.9 gpa and 1790 sats and will reject 3.8 gpas and 2100 sats. All in all, I think if you applied there EA you might have a chance.
I think you should really push for UMich they’ve got a respectable reputation in your desired field, and if you work on your test scores a little, and apply EA, you’re a valid candidate.

Also, make sure your essays are amazing! Don’t slack on them, and have tons of people edit, they can really be your make it or break it factor!

If you have a shot, chance me back, I’ll really appreciate it :)

I think your EC’s are your biggest advantage. Your GPA at 3.5uw isn’t doing you any favors as you are top 39%. If you can get your tests scores up a bit to 2100 like you said, as well as writing stellar essays, then you might have a chance at UT Austin. But other than that, UT, A&M, and UMich are all reaches. UCB is impossible for you OOS as they want instate California students and only take the top of the top of OOS students. UTD only has Mech E, so if that’s what you want, you can use them as a safety and they give good scholarships.

I go to a top 5 public school in Texas that sends the most people in the state to UT and plenty of people to the ivies, so if you want more info, you can pm me.
