Please be completely honest in your posts! Its time for some hard truth..

I am actually in the same exact boat except i’m white and female. I am also curious to see if I would get in with a 29 Act/3.97 weighted GPA/4’s and 5’s on AP Physics B, AP Calculus BC, AP Chemistry, AP English Lang and AP Human Geo. 5 National Honor Societies (Math(VP), English,Spanish,French,Nat’l), Girl Scout, Guide Dog Volunteer, Varsity Kickline, Research Student

Dear EddieMaini,

As a Second Year Engineering student, having seen the talent at UVa, I think you are a 50-50 applicant from what I see here. Here’s why:

The ACT score is nothing spectacular, so I would give the SAT a go. I’m not saying that taking the ACT is putting you at a distinct disadvantage, but I think it’s a bit odd for you to be taking that one coming from NoVa- a region where the SAT is typically taken. I’m not sure whether this helps you by letting you keep from direct comparison with students taking solely the SAT or hurts you by not giving the Adcoms an obvious way to stack you up against the droves of excellent students applying from your area taking just the SAT.

Best of luck. Hope everything works out for you, feel free to get back to me with any questions.

Dear l0vesummerr,

Probably 70% chance of admission. The AP scores don’t really have an impact, but it seems you’ve taken a rigorous schedule, have respectable test scores, and some extremely interesting extracurricular activities. Cross fingers!

There is absolutely nothing ‘odd’ for any student to be taking and submitting an ACT score from NoVa. Most savvy students looking to optimize their best chances are now trying both test formats to see which format best suits them. UVa does not prefer one format over the other.

One format does not give the student an advantage of the other. Simply take/send the test that you score statistically higher on. UVa is actually full of an entire department of professionals that do this full time (Admissions), and know how to compare the two test formats against each other. I know, shocking!

I’m going to post my usually disclaimer here that I’m not a fan of chances posts, but an even bigger frustration is blatant incorrect information being perpetuated.
