chance me for Uva?!?! I will chance back :)

I really want to go to Uva! Its a school i always wanted to go to. Im a rising junior from southern Virginia. I should have around a 3.5-3.8 gpa by the time i apply there. I take lots of honor classes. I took 1 AP class sopmore year, which was AP Euro. I also am planning to take AP U.s history and AP Bio in the fall. Im a officer in Key club, member in class council, sca, and academic challenge. couldnt do soccer because my parents are very sick, and i have to work part time jobs :/. Im planning to major in Biology. I havent took the sat yet, but i expect a high score though.
The only hooks i have is that im black well actually mixed and im lower middle class, and 1st generation on my fathers side of the family.

Could i get accepted into Uva? I want to know if im doing a good job. Any advice will be appreciated!

Try and raise your GPA a bit. Obviously take the act/sat and try to aim high, but because you are from VA it can be a bit easier. Try and join some clubs and spend time in them to get awards and good positions.

You look good so far. Score between a 2000-2100 or higher and start showing interest in UVA. Request information, things like that. Also I suggest you apply EA there also. Hope that helps.

Thanks you guys!

I think your work experience can be highly in your favor. Plus you’re in-state. I’d say if you get a good test score you’ll be set.

Work on the gpa, and try to kill those ap tests. Ec’s are alright, i would also agree that you join clubs or get some kind of leadership role that you can stick with and show how you’ve grown as a person. A good essay topic could be how you’ve become more of an adult with responsibilities due to your parents illnesses and the jobs you have. Study hard for the acts ans sats!

You could very easily get into UVA as long as you take more challenging classes (maybe consider doing more than 3 APs?) and get a good score on the SAT.

You’re black and in-state, you’ll be fine. just keep doing what you’re doing, and you’ll be a shoo-in.

Hi, Im an in-state student…
First of all, I think the most important which might take up more than half factor is GPA.
Lot of people who get in have solid GPA.

However, I think you will have a great chacne if you have 2100+ SAT and straight a in junior year + your ethnicity

GOod luck
YOuve got some time :)

I need mroe contstructive criticism. Be honest guys. Thanks!

I think that a 3.5 MAY be a little too little. Try to keep it over 3.7. But, ur on the right track. Good luck!

Aim for that 2000/2100 and I think you would be set (or try the act)

I think that if you keep your grades up and get a decent ACT/SAT score, you’ll be in for sure. you have an interesting background, and diversity is always good.

You just need to work on those SATs and GPA because your work experience and your extra-curriculars seem to be solid. I would also recommend that you take a couple more AP classes, because 3 may be a bit less. Your ethnicity and your work experience will boost your chances.

I think you have a good shot at UVA. Just aim for ~2100+ on the SAT, and you should be fine. Really liking the bio major!

Id say ur doing pretty good, just do best you can to get good grades. Im surprised that you took AP Euro in sophomore year. Do a lot of schools do that? I cant take it until senior year.

Obviously you need to aim for high SAT/ACT scores. Try to boost the GPA to 3.7+ and join clubs/gain leadership positions. Also, you may want to clock in some volunteering hours. Part time work is good, and the fact that you are black and in state helps even more. You have a great shot all around.
