Chance me for UVA please

SAT 1430 :frowning: not great with tests
680 math 750 English
9 AP courses (expected to receive college credit for each)
My GPA situation is a little complicated. 9th grad I moved to PA for a year. Struggled a lot mentally, so I did poorly academically. They had a different grading system then my current high school(7pt system versus 10 point letter system). Additionally, all the classes I took (besides P.e) were honors/ weighted classes, but my transcript does not show that.
When I was touring, they said they put more emphasis on recent years rather than freshman year, and I know colleges tend to favor improvement over the years.
GPA unweighted all 4 years 3.64
GPA weighted all 4 years 4.05
GPA (excluding Freshman) 3.90
GPA (excluding Freshman) 4.453
Junior and Senior year I was able to return to all As

Extra Curriculars are also weak
-~HSK level 2 Mandarin Chinese (hope to major in Chinese)
-creating comics - I write, draw the story board, and act as a leader by collaborating with artists Well I’ve done a lot of work on this, I have not published anything yet. I will publish a short story in a week or two though.
-DnD teaches you to work with others, be creative, innovative solutions
-reading- broadens my interest, read a wide variety- more empathetic, more curious,

  • babysitting- I help raise my nephew. During school year I watch him roughly 4 hours per week though it varies. During summer I tend to watch him more. My sister’s a young, single mother, so she needs more help. (This is not meant to be patronizing. She is a really good mother.)

I think my essays are alright.

I live in Virginia.

1430 SAT is 97th percentile. Why do you say “not great with tests?”

Also, not sure what is a “weak” extracurricular activity.

My son’s best friend got into UVa with 1490 (only took SAT once and math was 780) but he was #1 in his class, great GPA and lots of extracurriculars. He was not from an underrepresented group or needs based. I do think OP is not getting in tho. GPA/ SAT still too low. Every other kid I know who got in had 1500+.

Don’t worry too much about your SAT’s, that is only a very small part of the application process that UVA looks at. They care much more about your essays and transcripts. Plus, to contradict one of the users above, the idea of needing a 1580 to even be “acceptable” is ridiculous; the average SAT score among the early decision applicants that have already been admitted was around 1410. The most important part is probably your transcript, so hopefully you took the opportunity to explain your academic circumstances for freshman year somewhere in the application. Other than that, you’ve already submitted your application and there’s nothing you can do to improve your chances at this point so try not to think about it.

idk why, but it seems they only care about GPA.

I think if you went to a top 10 HS in Virginia, you’ll most likely make it in.
