Chance me for UVA, VT, VCU engineering, W&M

instate VA
Female
not ranked - very competitive math/science program
4.4 weighted GPA - not as high as it could be. I didn't really get my act together until end of sophomore year.
Grades freshman year: about half Bs or B+s and As; all honors classes
Grades sophomore year: mostly As, one or two B+s; all honors classes
Grades and classes junior year first/second semester:
Honors research: A+/A+
Honors art IV: A/A
Honors english: A+/A+ (required in our program so no AP Lang)
Honors physics: A/A
AP Bio: A/A
AP US: A/A
AP Calculus BC: A/A+
Grades and classes senior year first quarter:
Dual enrollment math modeling/differential equations: A+ (hardest math class in the county and I got either one of two or the only A+!!)
Honors Art V: A
Honors anatomy: A+
AP Chemistry: A+
AP Gov: A
AP Statistics: A+
AP Lit: A+

Test Scores:
SAT: 2120 total, 1420 CR and math, 700 writing, 700 CR, 720 math
AP: AP Calc BC: 4 (blah); AP US: 5 ; AP Bio: 5

ECs are weak. Like I said I was lazy freshman and sophomore year. Then it was too late :(
Freshman: Key club, piano, girl scouts
Sophomore: Key club, piano, girl scouts, Beta
Junior: Cross country and track, key club, piano, girl scouts, Beta, NHS, math/science mentoring
Senior: Cross country and track (CAPTAIN this year), key club, piano, girl scouts, Beta, NHS, school ambassador, freshman mentoring, math modeling team
Various volunteering
Work: 5-15 hours a week during October at a pumpkin patch, on call during the year (it's a greenhouse)
What makes me nervous is applying to engineering but not being in things like Mu Alpha Theta especially when math is a passion of mine. I didn't apply out of stupidity sophomore year and then junior year my calc teacher didn't give us the info..
And a lack of leadership...also due to laziness in early high school. However I do put SO much energy into school, and my current ECs, especially my cross country and track teams!!
No summer programs and such - I travel a lot and have been to 46 states (included in essay)

Awards (again not much):
Perfect attendance each year
Scholar Athlete award
Varsity letter
AP Scholar

So more background: I used to want to go into physical therapy. Then junior year I fell in love with math and calculus. Summer before this year I decided I want to go into biomedical engineering - it's so cool and I love the application of the engineering to the human body - like two in one haha! Obviously this is a recent realization so I didn't take AP Physics and am taking AP Chem instead. :/ So I'm applying to VCU (honors college too), VT (I know no BME major), and UVA engineering then W&M and JMU for if I decide not to do engineering. UVA is my top choice.
But yeah didn't really start cracking down till last year so I'm concerned.
Essays are good- I'm a strong writer. Recs are good too.
Also did an interview at W&M and it went very well!

So chance me please? Thanks!!

it doesn’t say in title but JMU also. Hoping that’s a safety.

Bump bump bump!!!

I think you are certainly competitive for JMU. Did you apply EA? JMU also has scholarships for STEM majors, and has an honors program. I could be wrong, but I think if your interest is in Biomedical Engineering you might want to look at the Bio – Biotechnology major – [JMU - Biology Department - Biotechnology Major](<a href=“Biotechnology Program - JMU”>Biotechnology Program - JMU). I believe a former student of mine (she was a theatre minor, so I had her in theatre classes) completed significant undergraduate research and is now in a funded masters program.

I would think you would be competitive for VCU honors, as well. VTech (STEM), UVA, and W&M… not sure.

Thanks. Any more opinions please???
Also I do have 5 years of Spanish.

Bump!!!

Did you apply EA for UVA?

Nope I’m doing regular for all. Already submitted VCU but that’s rolling

UVA: Match
VCU: Safety
VT: Low Match
W&M: Match/Low Match
You will probably get into all of these universities

Chance me

One thing to keep in mind if your passion and honest intent really is BME, UVa e’school students apply for their major the end of their first year. This is a competitive process, several majors have caps, BME being the most competitive by far. I can not stress the competition for this major enough. If you are not willing to go with another major think long and hard about committing to UVa. It’s an amazing school, don’t misunderstand me. My own son is a mech’e there. Only two of his immediate peers were accepted to BME.

Best of luck.

Thank you!
And yes I’ve researched quite a bit and do understand that. It is something to think about if I do get in. However I feel like if I want it that much then trying is the only way to get there if you know what I mean. Thanks and hopefully I’ll end up where I’m meant to be!

Any more opinions??

Bump!! Thank you!!!
