Chances? I heard the engineering program was pretty competitive to get into. I really hope I have a shot at getting in Early even though I heard early applicant pool is going to be hard because of the volume of applicants.

Ask your gudiance office if they have historical data for your school & system. I know several of the NoVA counties have summary (# applied, # admits, average GPA & SAT of admits) and detailed scatter charts for several years of applicants. The summary data from some schools is on line (google search). I believe the scatter charts are restricted to the school Blackboard sites (available to the students but not the public).

I read on Dean J’s blog they received significantly more RD applications, and I know last year’s yield (accepts/admits) was higehr than typical, so it is probably more competitive (again! this has been going on for years) than last year. Good luck!

50/50 shot, pretty much every kid in VA with a 4.0 and your numbers will apply and they take as much as they can, since you applied EA it should be more likely

and if you really want engineering why didn’t you apply to tech? Pretty sure their engineering is far superior to UVAs

@herewego2 Guidance counselor had stats from last year’s class. out of 50 students, 15 applied to UVa and 13 got accepted. I found out who the two denied were, and they had really got stats so I am shocked they didn’t get in and am now really scared… I really hope my essays can set me apart from my average gpa and SATs

Though you’re in-state, your SAT is a tad low compared to what UVA usually admits. However I know a girl who was accepted into their engineering school last year with barely over a 2000 SAT, and less impressive ECs than you have. Your strong GPA should make up for it and give you a fighting chance. Did you apply EA?

I applied to UVA too.
