I’m a Virginia resident attending public high school in Northern Virginia (senior this year) and I’m hopeful to become a first year student at UVA in 2017!
I’m a male, and I’m White as well as Pacific Islander (Guamanian)
I have a 3.95 weighted GPA, and a 3.59 unweighted GPA.
My school offers the IB Program, and while I’m not pursuing the IB Diploma, I have taken a good amount of IB Classes:
10th Grade:
IB Chemistry: A
IB Math SL1: B+
11th Grade:
IB Biology HL1: A-
IB History of the Americas HL1: B+
IB Math SL2 (6/7 on the IB exam): B
12th Grade:
IB Biology HL2
IB Topics of the 21st Century HL2
IB Math Studies SL
IB Design and Technology SL
IB Business and Management SL
I also took a couple of academic electives: Aerospace 1 (A), STEM Engineering(B+), Design and Tech(B+), Sports Medicine (A)
I believe that the strongest part of my application will be my standardized test scores:
New SAT: 1450 (730 Reading and 720 Math) with 6/5/5 on writing (writing isn’t that great i know)
ACT: 34 Composite (34 Math&Science, 33 English) with a 29 on the essay
SAT II: Biology M 760, Math Level2 720
EC’s (I made the mistake of not joining more of these sooner, and am making a final push to pad this section of my app):
Club Baseball (2013-Present), 2 All-Star player awards
Little League Baseball Umpire (2012-Present)
2 jobs since August 2015
Biomedical Science club (2015-Present), running for an officer position at the beginning of this school year
Red Cross Club (2016-Present), in talks with the sponsor to re-activate this club at my school which would make me the president of it
Young Democrats (2016-Present)
Science Honor Society (2016-Present)
Social Studies Honor Society (2016-Present)
Math Honor Society (2016-Present)
Best Buddies Club (2014-2015)
High School Track & Field (2015-2016)
National Honor Society (2016-Present?) I’ve always qualified it but for some reason my former self never took advantage of it and now I will hopefully make the cut in my last year.
Anyway, my GPA is a little low but I’m dedicated to getting straight A’s for senior year before transcripts are sent to colleges. Hoping that my test scores make up for a lot, and I’m trying my best to get as many extracurriculars as I can in this year, because I didn’t take advantage of them in previous years.
Also, I’ve been working super hard on my college essays, and have been told by teachers and tutors that they are very strong and well-written, so I’m hoping that they catch the admission dean’s eye.
