Chance me for UW?

I’m interested in Computer Science but I’m still not sure. I really like UW because it has a lot of flexibility in switching majors.

  • piano and violin lessons all through highschool
  • tutored elementary schoolers as a volunteer
  • taught English in Japan for a week

  • National Merit Commended Scholar
  • Johns Hopkins’ CTY w/ High Honors
  • Bunch of writing awards with Scholastics and other competitions

I’m out of state and I know UW isn’t generous with scholarships to out-of-state students, but I really need one to be able to afford this school. Could I get into UW with a merit scholarship?
If not, any suggestions on what schools w/ a strong comp sci program I could potentially get into with a scholarship in Washington or California?

You definitely have a solid chance of getting accepted (note that oos admit rate is relatively low). I doubt you’ll get a merit scholarship, because you are not a 2400 or something like that. Merits will go to people with stats like yours that are instate.
You might want to try private universities, oos public flagships aren’t a good fit for you because they aren’t likely to give you much money.

Thanks for the advice! What private universities do you think I should apply to? I’ve already applied to a few universities nearby (MD) but I really want to go to the west coast for school.
