I totally screwed up my freshman year. Every since than, I’ve opened my eyes and started putting in effort. That’s why my 10-12 GPA is great.

  • Worked as a district poll worker in the 2016 California Election
  • Volunteered at City Council Debates
  • Developing a publication regarding social media and cancer communication in the social age @ City of Hope

  • From the head oncologist of the RCC (Renal Cell Carcinoma) Program at City of Hope.

Based on your grades and test scores your chances aren’t great. If your essay really stands out your chances should improve. I recommend that in the additional information section, you write a really good paragraph about your upwards grade trend and why you worked so hard to improve your grades to win them over.

I think you have a solid shot if you capitalize on your upwards grade trend and make that central to your application. Schools like GWU and UWash heavily consider your scores, more so than your extracurriculars. You’d be in a much better position if you worked with your counselor, teacher recommenders, and parents to somehow craft an application that makes your upwards trend an advantage.
